TVR S V8

Hoping someone can help. I have a restored SV8 and started it up today to get the juices flowing. Removed the trickle charger and shut the boot. Just went to open boot to put the trickle back on and the boot wont open when I press the button ? I can hear the relay click and the battery is charged. I have got someone to press the drivers side as I press the button but still won't open ? Any of you guys have any pearls of wisdom ?

Possibly you forgot to connect the solenoid to the lever? If you've just rebuilt it you'll know where you put the emergency release cable?

No as was all working when laid up for winter. Thanks though

I had the same thing on my V8S. I figured that was either the solenoid not releasing or the gas strut not lifting the boot lid.

I changed the gas strut first which didn't fix it and the solenoid next which did fix it.

I can't do a link as I'm on my mobile but go to Maplins website and search for YD79L. Costs £7.99 and takes about an hour to fit as you need to remake the electrical connections.

Of course you will need to use the secret way to get into the boot in the first place. PM me if you need further help.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you. I got in using the secret method. A few presses of the solenoid and a bit of WD40 and all works perfectly. I am going to Maplin to get a spare but at least now, thanks to you, I know what to do.

The help you gave is invaluable to a new owner like me who is capable if given advice

That's okay, the S forum is full of helpful people. I've never not found an answer to any of my queries.

Glad to hear that you're sorted. For £8 I would swap over the solenoid straight away. The WD40 may work for a while or you may be out one rainy day with the roof in the boot when it decides not to work again.

With a new solenoid in place you may only have another 20 years of trouble free motoring.

Following on from Joe's ( v8s4me ) comment, it would certainly be a comfort to install a manual boot release cable as a back-up.
An old style choke cable of appropriate length would do the job and give peace of mind.
