I'm still looking for a V8s and have not seen many for sale. Would the extra power with this one make it unsafe if the chassis or other components have not been strengthened accordingly. Also would insurance be a lot higher as it's been modified? Other than that does anyone know of any other V8s that may be for sale?

You would most likely have it on a classic policy. I added 80 bhp to my 4 litre Chim last year by adding an extra litre. Loads of other mods too. Phoned my insurer to tell them, they just made a note. No additional premium. They just seem to see what is on the DVLA and note that it's modified. If your driving record is ok they don't seem bothered. BabyDriver said:

But is the claimed power output genuine? Strangely, the insurers might be more interested in the non-standard wheels. You'd need to be very sure about the quality of the work on the brakes and suspension and if you don't know what to look for, get someone who does to give it the once over for you.These Cossie 4-pots on a V8S for example........
Can you spot the issues?
My SP12 wheels and R888s are also noted on the policy....no issues. Insured with Equity Red Star via ClassicLine 01455 639000.
Unlimited mileage, all UK track days, 300 bhp 5 litre Chim with roll cage, non-standard wheels, etc etc, £460 a year. Old git at wheel, last accident 5 years ago was a total write off, upside down in a ditch. No points (either on my licence or for artistic impression!)
So don't fear the insurance cost unless you are 19 (really, not mentally).
Those brakes? Not a clue, but 283mm (IIRC) Cossie brakes are a standard Chim upgrade. I can see he has spacers on for the non-standard wheels, to get the offset nearer correct.

It is one of those adverts, that could be genuine and therefore be a good buy, but it all seems a bit too good to be true.

very low mileage which seems too low to be true, but could be based on the new engine only,
fuel consumption claims which seem optimistic for a car with that sort of power,
power output claims, given a 4.5 V8 in a Chim has at best 285bhp unless it has been modified,
variation in stated engine size,
and most worrying, the photos that have obviously been grabbed from an old style PistonHeads Classifieds advert.
Assuming it is genuine, and the seller is on this forum based on the PH photos, they should be along soon to add some information to support the advert.
If the work on the engine, brakes and suspension etc has been done well, and it is a genuine advert, then it does potentially represent a good buy for someone if the chassis is also good.
Somebody local should really go and have a look.

If that is a V8 Developments 4.6 with all the induction mods, lightened fly, the correct BHP friendly cam etc etc it might get close to 340 bhp, but 30 mpg is a pipe dream even driven like your granny for 200 miles on a flat dual carriage way at a precise 50 mph in 5th. I got high 20s once or twice out of a 4 litre, but my 5 litre, V8D spec, gets 20-22 on a long journey, 8 if pushed.

Both calipers were not centered on the disc and pointed off at an angle to the disc, one caliper sat too high so 6mm of the pads on that side didn’t touch the disc and one of the caliper bolts was missing. The calipers had been “adjusted” to fit the hubs with an angle grinder, in short, they were lethal.Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
