Does the low number of posts this weekend mean you've all been out putting some miles under your wheels? biggrinthumbup

Yes, but after I have repaired the exhaust. The pipes had cracked where they go into the 'pre-silencer' or whatever it is. I have sleeved them with 2" stainless tube and then a collar of 2" id pipe. Never welded stainless before but seems strong although not pretty. I had to reduce the length of the downpipes and use joiners to make it work. A complete PITA but the drive this afternoon after some time off the road was lovely.

Spent the weekend rearranging the garage, panelling, insulating (why with this weather!) and wiring to fit my new toy (lathe) in.

Annoyingly did take the S for it's first spin of the year and it's developed an ominous rattle eek Hoping it's the alternator bearing and nothing serious...

Serves me right for not to using it enough getmecoat

My wheels rolled for 81 miles today. Sadly I was pedalling my bike rather than driving an S.... but my new S will be here on 22/3 bouncebounce

Probably done about 60 miles this w/e in the S1. It is rather uncouth as it has a single 18" straight-through 'bomb' type 'silencer' at present and goes through a fearful resonant phase at 3-4000rpm with much popping and banging on the overrun. I'm constructing a new exhaust in stainless steel which will be as near original spec as I know how. I know that the rear part has a sawtooth profile of perforated steel with the sound-deadening material above it and I understand that the front bit has an oval of perf. steel which goes around both downpipes where they enter the box (I realise there are sleeve joints just in front of the box). I presume that where the front bit joins the main silencer that the oval opens into the main silencer. What I am unsure of is whether there should be any sound-deadening material wrapped around the oval tube or whether the front part is purely an expansion chamber. I'm using E-glass. I'm also unsure as to the exact length of the front section. Any info would be appreciated. I'm aware that by the time people open up original silencers the stuffing has often long gone so does anyone know what was originally there?

It was such a perfect day Barry bow
I'm glad that I spent it it with you. musicbiggrin

I only managed 312 miles driving today, so I'm just minor league I guess wink
But I'm dead chuffed with my refurbed wheels ( pics to follow on another thread coming soon smile ) and I reckon my new front discs & pads should be starting to bed in now.

Good turnout at Shelsley, the sunshine made it sooo much more pleasurable.
Except on the way, when I was looking for the M5 turnoff from the M6 and all I could see was a huge red ball coming over the horizon.
I had to 'Use the ForSe' !

Now then, wot's next?

Hasn't L.I.Am finished the Autobahn testing of your S yet?
I believe he's been "spotted" in it all over Europe with a big smile on his face.......

Well, I guess it's so much better than golf ?

We had a fab run to and from Shelsley, great breakfast, once the queue went down (11.30) what a fantastic collection of amazing motors there were, no idea how many miles we did but 3/4s of a tank of fuel was used, especially after catching up with a Lambo Aventador, he didn't see me coming, and spent about an hour in and out of town round the bypass exchanging exhaust roar and barks. Spotted and filmed by a PHer, ( RobTVR ) looking forward to seeing on here when he finishes the edit. Only just getting round to surfing the forum, but at lunchtime I must go for a blast in the "S" to get more fuel...
