Seat Belt Buckle/Socket Question
Discussion
Hi All
I'm not sure whether this is just my car, or a common S Series thing. My seat belt buckle seems to be on a very long stalk, such that when done up the buckle is sitting half way around my waist.
Its a bit uncomfortable, but more worryingly it tucks up under my ribcage, and I'm pretty sure that in a smash it would make a mess of my ribs and everything beneath!
Does anyone know what seat belts are used in S Series, and if alternative buckles can be fitted?
Thanks

If you search S series seatbelt buckles you will find a number of threads covering this issue, the latest one is below.I'm not sure whether this is just my car, or a common S Series thing. Makes a heck of a difference having the shorter stalk, without changing the belt and inertia reel. Makes it a one handed job to clip in and much more comfortable. ( about 4 to 5 inches shorter ) I thought it was just the Fiat Punto Mk1 upto 1999, but some seem to have had success with the Mk11. Also beware the drivers side retaining bolt, mine had spacers on to stop it fouling the exhaust which is just the other side of the tunnel on mine.

Hi All
OP......
Thanks
Fitting the rose joint / fixed joint (like in the group buy thread) as well as the shorter clips makes a huge improvement in the day to day using of the seatbelts.OP......
Thanks
The upper mount change allows the seatbelt to retract and the inertia reel to 'clamp'. The shorter clips take the belt further round and out of the way of the body.
Now just need to figure out how to change adapt Tamy's seatbelts so they work as well.

Thanks for all the input. I've ordered two mk2 punto units for the princely sum of £15, so we'll see how that goes.
I'm doing some chassis preserving work soon, so while the car is up I'll take the seats out and fit the new units (assuming they work). Here's hoping!

There were a few for sale, but for about £9 each or so.

Punto is not the only one. There are a couple of Peugeot seat belt stalks of about the same period which also fit. I have just looked back into my file and I am annoyed that I cannot find more details. Mine came from one of the late, up market, 205's. Mind you they are all getting pretty hard to find in breakers now.
