Hi all,

I'm with Admiral insurance and the renewal has just come up. I have 6 years no claims with protection which was £400 last year.

A couple of months ago some numpty scraped my car when parking (thread posted here!) and I called the insurance company to 'inform them for information purposes only' as legally required to do so. No claim made - fault or otherwise.

My renewal is over £700 and they say although the incident is closed and was for information only - it counts as a non-fault claim. They say I have to tell other insurance companies about it too.

Is this correct? Am I screwed? Do I need to mention a car-park scrape as a non-fault claim, a 'notification' or neither?

Help REALLY appreciated.

From experience I would say insurance companies normally ask if you have had any claims or accidents in the last five years, you have had neither? so you will not be telling a lie if you dont mention it. Best go through a broker who will give better advice as an insurance company will try to get the most out of you where a broker will try and get you the best price!!

Give Unicover Insurance (01903877177) a call ask for Richard and tell him I told you to call him, he will give you good advice and if he cant get you a better quote he will know who can. If its not a daily driver and you want limited mileage also try Classic line insurance I am 35, second car, limited to 5000 miles and my premium is £270 including breakdown cover!

They are talking bollocks.. I went through this some time ago when my wifes insurance company as her boss had driven into her car in the works carpark and paid for it to be fixed.

The insurance company were told for information purposes etc, however at renewal I had to get pretty irate with the company by phone, pointing out that my wife had neither been involved in an accident, or made a claim.

It took some doing, but I finally got them to see sense... (it was very hard work mind you)

Best of luck,
Matt.

Just had a similar argument with my old insurer… eventually ended up with me asking them for proof that they had given me money, and why would I pay a £200 excess for £80 worth of damage...

Pistonheads comes through again! Classicline quoted £428 full comp, no claim protected with green card (Spain TVR trip next April ). Obviously if I had had any 'accidents or claims' it would have been different.

Sounds like they're completely and utterly taking the piss! If you never made a claim and they never paid any money out, how can they possibly label it as a no fault claim?

Why not try contacting the ABI and see if they can offer any advice. Even if you've got a sensible quote elsewhere, it's probably still worth sorting in case it's mentioned on the documentation you need to prove your NCB, or is lurking on a computer somewhere!

A further question guys:

I've now got a good quote from Classicline. They asked if I had had any 'accidents or claims' in the last five years which I have not, so answered truthfully that I hadn't.

On the small print on the form I got today, it say all 'incidents (eg: accident or theft)' should be reported, if they resulted in a claim or not.

Should I:
a) Ignore this as it wasn't really an 'incident' (!)
b) Call them and let them know about the scrape
c) err, something else...

I'm not sure what my current insurance company have it down as (and therefore the national database has recorded) because they don't seem to know themselves. The last they told me was that it wasn't a claim but an 'information only' notification which they class as a no-fault claim - hence the hike.

I would call them, from my experience with Classic line they will tell you if its needed to be put on the form or not??? What you cant do is give the insurance company an excuse not to pay out if you ever need to.

Classic Line were really helpful with my recent (? 1 year on..) claim, but when re-newing insurance I found a company called Luker Rowe were excellent. They have loads of patience when dealing with 'past experience' queries. Give 'em a bell... Good Luck

An update.

Sent the form back with 'No' written in the 'any accidents or claims' box.

Circled the small print bit about all 'incidents' needing to be mentioned and wrote on the form - "[date] Front bumper was scraped while my unattended car was parked in a parking space. No claim made by either party or further action required. Incident reported to my then insurance company for information purposes."

Not heard further anything yet...

(As an aside, it appears you need to mention accidents/claims for 3 years, but 'incidents' forever!)

Classicline insurance certificate arrived today. Just off the phone from telling Admiral to get stuffed.
