windscreen replacement

what would be the situation now if you damage your windscreen ?
as they are all locked up in the big box at TVR .

surely there must only be a limited supply of these
what happens if a few years time ?

anyone know ?
i can only assume autoglass don't keep a stock or is there an alternative that would fit ?

Autoglass do i think. The idiot who had my S1 before me glued the rear view mirror on with super glue. This cemented it to the screen and whilst driving one winter it cracked right down the centre. Autoglass do them and believe its from a Ford Granada.

The day I agreed the sale on mine, my screen got chipped (tennis ball sized!).

It took Autoglass six weeks to sort it… at the time, no dealer or specialists had any in (although I think David Gerald said he might be able to get them)… but Autoglass found two… and they dropped one!

I dealt with Autoglass Chelmsford… the manager Rob was VERY helpful, and the job done by Paul (the fitter) was stunning.

The screens are made by a Dutch company as I recall for TVR, so may well be available direct. I'm not sure if the glass from Autoglass etc. come from the same place.

There are also two different shapes of the "same" screen circulating, SilverShield took out my old screen before finding the new one didn't fit, two weeks later they brought another one that didn't fit

The screen I eventually got was from a Tuscan racer, so they avenue might be worth a go...

There were NO screens at TVR when i enquired as those they had were left outside and went cloudy so got binned.I doubt they ordered any more

When was this Colin, as it was the case when I had my problems last March time, so its still the case now and they've done nothing to obtain some S screen, things don't look good

Had mine replaced by Autoglass in Leeds earlier this year, no problems at all, had the car for a full day and no problems since.

According to the S parts list Autoglass have them listed as Griffith (S Tourer) Autoglass No. 1100WCL

The previous owner of my car had a screen put in , he told me it was Ford cortina. Only hearsay but somebody may be able to investgate.

Its not from a Cortina ! the local mobile glass fitter got one for me, and I think is was from pilkinton glass, he has no problem getting one.
Cost about £115 from the makers, you could try just ringing them and asking ?

This is true.

I had one fitted last year by Autoglass in Salisbury. Told them it was for a Griffith S Tourer(?), took a couple of days for them to get it and then fitted in a day. They did an excellent job, improved the look of the car no end, and all for fifty sheets through the insurance.

Compare this to TVR who at the time had one "factory soiled" screen and could send it to my local dealer for inspection before I bought it, for £250 I think, but I'd have to pay the carriage whether I took it or not.

All the best reports for fitting come from visiting Autoglass centres, as the work involved to remove the screens is a complete

Myself and Psychobert (IIRC) had home fitting and had the dash damanged, it my case it was a small tear right at the edge, so was thankfully hidden under the newly fitted glass, but I've heard of extensive damage being caused to some cars.

Yup, that was me. About half an inch gash for about 5 or 6 inches along the nearside, and a big rip along the offside. Both painted out with boot black so I wouldn't notice and the attitude of the manager of the workshop was that its not a problem as 'its not like it s anew car is it mate?' Oh, both a pillers and the roof lining peeled off as the old screen was simply removed with a stanley knife in a couple of minutes. Took 3 months and IIRC about £1500 to get it sorted. They paid.

I would never go mobile again and if I ever had to get a screen fitted again will be making a right pain in the ar5e of myself at the fitters before anyone goes near my car..
