Im going to change the fuel filter. Will the fuel pump stop petrol draining out of the tank while Im fitting the new one? Will much petrol flow back down from the regulator valve or is there a vacuum there to hold it back?
OK, two stupid questions
JoeOK, two stupid questions

It's only the questions that go unasked that are the stupid ones.
You can remove the filter without draining the tank. I know because I replaced mine earlier this year.

Isn't the filter between the tank and the pump ?
Nope! You may have a pre-filter (non standard) but all the V6 and V8 variants have the main filter on the pressure side of the pump

On the 2.9 V6 system pressure can be held in that fuel line (same on V8 ?), there is a valve on the injector manifold to release it, or lots of rag around the hose fitting as you loosen the first union!

Mine's push fit so I'll have a couple of short bolts handy to plug the pipes. Edited by phillpot on Friday 23 May 06:42
The filter I got is a Coopers/Fiaam FT5141/FIG7002 if anyone is interested. Just 9.00.

I have a 2.9 V6 S3C. Changed the fuel filter a couple of months back.
There's a scheder valve under the inlet manifold on the passenger side (UK rhd car) of the engine. Released the pressure. Then took the back wheel off and pulled the filter free. Undid the two banjo fittings and swapped the fileter over. I ended up cleaning up the old copper washers and reusing them as the new ones had a bigger flange that the corroded banjo and bolts didn't seat properly with.

No banjo fittings for us V8 boys, There's a scheder valve under the inlet manifold on the passenger side (UK rhd car) of the engine. Released the pressure. just push hoses on and a couple of jubilee clips.
