Drivers Window Not Winding Up

Hi all

I'm just looking for some advice. The drivers side window on my S won't wind up properly. It either stops or is so slow I feel sorry for it and give it a hand back up.

I've had the door cards off and the runners are all secure and everything seems well greased. There are no tight spots when I give it a hand to go up and everything seems OK. Its just rubbish!

I read in a buyers guide that this is a problem, especially on the drivers side. But it neglected to say why or what to do about it.

Any ideas?

Either an electrical problem, resistance through switch, connectors etc. so motor gets low voltage.

Or mechanism need a good lube (despite looking "well oiled" it could be that the grease is everywhere except where it really needs to be)?

Most likely a bit of both.

I take it you should be seeing the full 12v at the motor then?

You could get 12v through your wet finger, honestly!

Voltage is not always an indicator of all being well. I suggest you undertake a voltage drop test when the motor is running.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think its electrical now. I disconnected the glass from the lifter and it goes perfectly (admittedly not under much load). The glass can move quite freely too.

However, it seems that someone has tried to allow the glass to float a bit by putting about 5 washers through the hole for the glass. The problem is that this doesn't work very well at all!

Leaving the bolt loose allows the glass to go up under its own power. So I need to find a better way of allowing some float. I may try and just make a little sleeve up for the glass to rest on.

Also, I don't know if anyone knows, but I have only one bolt in the glass. I take it this isn't recommended...
