Tried the petrol tank? - -as in; has it got any in?

Been there myself Felt a right plonker!

If not, start with fuel pump fuse, then check for 12V at pump....check pump relay. Then your into fuel delivery to rail/injectors. But your right....she doesn't wan't to be parted from you!
Good luck. Nick

Good luck mate, what a bad run of luck. Better than what happened to me, went like a dream, ran perfectly then right after I bought it things started to go -££££

OK - I've got some progress - Starts & runs but seems very lumpy at low revs and feels like its going to stall

When the engine is switched off it won't start again -

With the air filter taken off it runs a bit better but still not perfect -

There is now [bold]very little [/bold]fuel in the tank as I can't stop at a gas station to fill up could this be a contributing factor?

Might it be dodgy fuel? (i rarely run more than 1/3 of a tank as this causes unnecessary grounding)

I have a provisional sale on the basis of getting this sorted out!

Who can help out on Xmas eve!?

Mine had a similar problem, ran very lumpy for half a mile. I decided to nurse car home driving right past petrol station.
Spent a couple of hundred quid on new electrics and TP, only to find that the cure was more petrol to be put in the tank. Give it a go....... nothing to loose.

The fuel pumps really don't like running dry, which could easily happpen if you've run it very low on fuel. If you can hear the pump making a nasty rattling noise or changing note for no apparent reason, this is a symptom of a knackered pump. Also if mine has got seriously upset due to a temporary fault, resetting the ECU cheers it up no end.

- Thats the sort of fix I'm keeping my fingers crossed for!

Got to do a bit of last minute Xmas shopping so I will pop via the petrol station & let you know how I get on!

First put petrol in tank regardless of guage and smell.
With a half full tank does the pump sound normal?
Take a plug out and see if it smells of petrol and is wet.How old are the plugs? they get absorbent when past it and cause non starting...have you a good spark?
With petrol in, and the pump pushing out ok,(pull off feed at regulator to check)then you are back to electrics.Distributor, coil connections etc.Air by pass valve and the dreaded throttle pot disconnection test.
Good luck Tim,You will have it sorted in no time.

Had the same thing happen to mine when at leebees
It turned out to be the big connector block on top of the engine, gave it a clean and it sorted it out.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Tim - really good to meet you on Friday, and thank you for being such a good sport about it all! Sounded beautiful when you did get it running, if that's any consolation. Hopefully it will get sorted and it's just dodgy fuel. Have spoken to my Dad, who reckons (this being a Granada V6) that it sounds like it could be the air mass flow sensor (or equivalent on an S2). This may be off mark as he is unfamiliar with the installation in the S2, but he reckons the symptoms (including refusal to hot start and horrible lumpy idle) sound rather familiar...

Anyway, hope to talk to you soon.

Suresh.
