Well, I guess mungo may have a point *ducks* when speaking comparatively. In a straight line drag race, a standard V6 S is not enormously quick - my friend's 1969 911S is faster. However, I think that such bald figures sort of miss the point. Most of us have grown out of drag racing pub conversation speak. I am stepping from a 340bhp MGB with close ratio box, LSD and other treats (0-60 in a confirmed 4.22 seconds) to a TVR S2 (0-60 in 7 seconds). Leon Cupra Turbos, some hot hatches, most sports cars and sports saloons will outdrag the S, and hit a higher top speed.

But that's not the point. The way I see it, you buy an S for the looks, noise and driving experience. Like my old MG, it feels fast even when you're not actually going that quickly. In today's driving conditions, that is extremely relevant to enjoying your car. I don't know about you chaps, but for me, getting from A to B is more about the experience while doing so than the time in which it takes.

So when someone says your S is 'dog slow', no need to argue. Just smile in the certain knowledge that, in the grand scheme of things, traffic light grands prix are a tiny part of why you bought the car.

Or save up for a V8s and just be very smug indeed.

Yep, 0 - 60 is late 6's so not that fast. But I wouldnt consider it dog slow either. In the hands of a decent driver, a V6S is a very fast car. Claire often stays with the cerbs, tuscans (and me) on Hants runs up the A32 and these are usually pretty rapid drives. The only time she really gets left is once we get to the A31 and the dual carriageway opens up when 165 bhp just isnt enough.

PeterH's is obviously a V8 with a lot of development. But a chap (who rarely posts on PH) that drives a V6 S with a reg like "G9UNT) or similar. I have heard reports of his standard car all over the back of the tuscans/cerbs and passing Chims and Griffs around the track....

Its the experience of driving the S I love.....

Driven many a car that is faster but you are "desensitived" (if there is such a word)from the wheels/engine/brakes even the road......

Bring them all on ..... done 6k in my S in the year (maxed out limit on insurance.... originally was 3k)..... all fun driving.

Quiet enjoyed my drive home from Boscombe along the M27, met a Tuscan coming past southampton and off the Fareham west turn off. Might have been a bit surprised at the S still the same size in his mirror when dragging from 75 - *** mph .

Harry

As already said, in the right hands any S is a quick a car as much more powerful machinery around the track, do not dismiss them IMHO.

I have an S and a Saab diesel - and point-to-point over a long distance there's not a lot of difference in journey time. The S probably takes longer because you have to stop for oh-so-slow fuel stops twice as often.

I get there in the Saab. I enjoy getting there (or sometimes maybe nowhere in particular) in the S.

The S isn't the fastest TVR - I know that - but it's a very raw and direct driving experience, and entirely enjoyable in its own right. It's still a fantastic overtaking machine, and its looks and noise alone are enough to put off most would-be-racer nutters. If somebody wants to blatter past then fine - I let them get on with it...

Dog slow in comparrison to what?
I just gave my S3 a blat over to Hoddesdon and before I knew it, I was doing a ton so backed straight off.
How fast does it need to be?
I know my one has a hotter cam than normal but surely with the advent of more and more speed restrictions and traffic snarl-ups a 5l Chim or Griff just can't get arround the Uk any quicker than me.
Its all about soft top motoring, loads of noise and a massive grin factor (at an affordable price)!

And he drives a Seat Cupra R with a similar 0-60 time..............!!? mmmmmmmm Is that how he describes his own car? I like the V6S its a great car and feels faster than it is which adds to the grin factor. Mungo even says that Teds car lapped quickly saying it was fast in the corners, isnt that what real speed is about, no good having great straight line speed if it dont go around corners well..........unless you live in America..?

so your walking down the road amd some one drives past in a seat/gto,tt,mg ( or any other car) do you give it a second look ,well i wouldn't ,
now if someone roars past in a unique sports car although it may not be the fastest on the planet ,
you are going to look to see where the noise is coming from,

thats the difference a TVR turns heads whatever speed you are doing

Why aren't you out of your head on cheap Vodka made with Anti-Freeze, instead of posting on here? Oh and how are you staying in touch, just out of sad techie curiosity.

I hope your Son's feeling better!

Agreed - I had an Audi TT 225 for about 8 weeks while my S was being rebuilt, and it was definitely quicker, but it was all so numb!

I felt more like a navigator than a driver!
