S Series Steering

Some S series help for a poor old Wedger!

My father could not resist my constant TVR ramblings and has decided that he would rather like to get an S.
We would like to know how heavy the steering is on the S and if any came with power steering as he has an old neck injury that can play up wtih overly heavy steering.

Any comments and help gratefully received!!

if that was non-PAS then its fair to say I find little difference between my S and my Chim

I've driven a lot of S's and they do vary enormously. Mine was fitted with the wooden wheel which has a slightly larger diameter, and consequently made low speed manouvering easier... you wont have any issues once under way.

One of thing of note is that following the tracking and alignment done at Austec the steering was a lot lighter (helps if all wheels point the same way! )

I would say the steering is reasonably heavy, but Ive only ever driven one car and cant easily compare. Why not try one out? Its probably not worth risking an injury on opinions, anyone local willing to let him have a go?

I believe power steering is available as an option, but stand to be corrected.

The steering on my V8S is very heavy, the steering on psychobert's V6S is fingertip light. there seems to be little consistency from the cars I drive .. you won't really know till you get in the driving seat of any one car.

Mine's pretty good considering there's no assistance. Manouvering in and out of the garage is pretty easy at slow speeds and parking is fairly easy too. But it is certainly heavier than my daily driver which has PAS.

Fairly small differences in camber and toe-in will affect the steering on an S. If it feels heavy then get the geometry checked before dismissing the car for that reason alone.

I've had several adjustments over the years and have been surprised by the change in steering effort versus change in geometry
