AIf you read the November 1990 review you will see that the S3C was fitted with an 'S4' bonnet and there were contemporary factory photos elsewhere of both patterns. So, is it right to assume that the later pattern bonnet was originally designed as another differentiator of the catalyst car? Having lifted an S4 bonnet I do agree that it is much more flexible than the earlier type. My original assumption was that an S3 with the later bonnet was the result of an accident repair but now seems not to be an exclusive truth. It would be interesting to know if the majority of current S3 cars with the later bonnet are catalyst models.

Hi,

my S3C was delivered with a bonnet like the Nov 90 article.
I.e. it has "sidevents" rather than the "scoop".

Pleasant surprise at the time (june 1991).
I then considered the sidevents see underpressure, thus improving under bonnet extraction.
The scoop should get an overpressure, competing with overpressure from the front grille.

Never calculated it at the time.
According to Bernouilli, at 100 km/h = 27.8 m/s that should be .... 498 Pa. Ooh big deal.
