cooling hoses 32 & 33
Discussion
Hi everyone
Can anyone tell me what hoses they have used in place of Nos 32 and 33 (in the diagram in FAQs).
I have managed to replace the other main hoses with rubber and I would prefer to use rubber for these 2, though I suppose it would do no harm to use silicon if I have to.
No 32 is shown as "Waterpump to Thermostat" and is noted in the FAQ as 25mm ID.
No 33 is the "bottom of waterpump area to steel pipe" it is shown as 15mm ID but the one on my S2 looks quite a bit larger at the top end, even allowing for its poor condition and apparent bulge. (I would prefer not to remove it to check until I have a replacement on hand).
any suggestions gratefully received
best regards
Don

The water pump to steel pipe one definitely has different diameters at each end. I couldn't find an original replacement anywhere when I tried to replace mine a couple of months ago. I tried using silicon hoses and an aluminium reducing pipe, but the curve I needed to follow was too tight, so the existing one went back on. You might have better luck with a reducing pipe and some of the ribbed silicon pipe which can be curved to a much tighter diameter.
Some proper Ford part numbers might help if you want to phone around a few Main Dealers, 2 and 3 ..... Clicky
Mine I made up with black silicone hoses, the bigger one from two sizes and a home made adaptor to join. To get around the issue down the bottom I soldered a 22 x 15mm adaptor onto the steel pipe, this made it near as damn it same size as water pump connection so I could use a standard pre-formed silicone bend
I've since replaced that complete steel hose with one made from copper tube.

Thanks everybody. I have just come in from garage and found the splendid response. I think I will have to bite the bullet and get in touch with the people who sell the silicon hose kits to see if they will sell me just these two hoses - hopefully in black. otherwise I may make up an adapter and possibly the bend from copper pipe/copper fittings and use short lengths of rubber hose to attach. (I need to think this through in case this will set up a galvanic corrosion cell).
Thank you Phillpot, foot2firewall and Maffey for the ideas and advice. Unfortunately the ad on ebay did not include the hoses I need but I will wait a few days to see how the bids for the swirl pot go, and may bid, as I think I could adapt it to replace my dodgy plastic expansion tank.
Thanks again

Ring these guys - just because it's not listed separately it doesn't mean they won't do it - you just may have to wait a bit.

A what ?I think you're "over thinking it" !
A typical cooling system already contains steel, iron, aluminium, brass, copper and plastic components, not forgetting the rubber or silicone hoses
Second hand hoses might be a handy (emergency) spare but I would personally look to getting something new, be it rubber or silicone. Even "new old stock" Ford parts could be suspect?
