Values in 2012?V8S
Discussion
Pick up some old issues of Practical Classics, think they have a price guide in the back pages?
Of course cars that are non-original, dodgey soft tops for example, could be worth a lot less

To be honest Joe, when I was searching for my first TVR in July /August 2011, S prices were varying wildly, V6 model asking prices were anything from £2500 up to £6000, depending on mileage, history, condition, and the optimism of the vendor. ( or desperation to sell/ need for cash )
The only V8S I saw advertised was £10995 if I remember correctly, but I can't remember the details as it was beyond my price band and too far away.
I really think it would be difficult to place an accurate value on any of our lovely cars at any given time, apart from when they were new.
The asking prices are today still all over the place, but what they actually sell for is, as always, whatever the buyer is prepared to pay.
There will always be an increase in value in Spring & early Summer, when the weather gets warmer & the sap starts rising.
I keep an eye on S's that come up for sale, and I think there has been a very slight upward trend over the last year or so.
Also a well-worded advert can boost the value considerably, by enhancing the prospective buyer's perception of the subject car. Cycle ollergy comes into play you see
Whatever, at the moment despite wildly fluctuating asking prices, S's & Wedges must be the most undervalued cars out there. Twice as much fun for half the money
It doesn't matter what you pay, you still get a BARGAIN!

Totally concur with Glen, prices vary hugely dependent on condition and seller optimism! Overall maybe a slight increase between then and now? With relatively low numbers of cars coming on the market it's perhaps difficult to get any kind of "average" or even poor/useable/concours grading.
We can all guesstimate and speculate but were you looking for something more "official", some kind of printed price guide (as per those magazines) that you can reference to?
In short, what are you up to ?

When I bought mine in 2008 (no way I've had it that long :O ) prices where anywhere between 5k and 10k but I've never seen more than three for sale at a time so it's hard to guess. the biggest problem with putting a price on a V8 is that you have to actually want one rather than a v6 with all the things that make the S so good or a Chim with the same engine and in many respects a better car.

I can't explain in detail on here but yes, it's some sort of "official" price guide I'm after. Let's just say "hell hath no fury.......etc" and Glen Close was a kitten by comparison.Don't worry I'm not selling!

How about trawling ( NB not trolling ) through the Sprint mag classifieds for the period in question?
Bearing in mind that most of the prices are usually optimistic & may not reflect the actual selling price.
I know of a V8S which has been for sale for quite a long time now, almost a year, and it could probably be purchased for around £8k.
Obviously it's worth more than yours Joe because the roof is original.
It's my favourite colour as well, but I have nowhere to keep it, otherwise I would be sorely tempted.

You wouldn't want Glen close now, would you Joe? Don't worry I'm not selling!

Unless you mean Glenn Close?
Yep, she was a pussycat.

Not much more to add to what the other guys have said, all I know is that a bloke I bumped into was looking for a good one, he had £25K burning a hole in his pocket for the right V8S, but it had to have a folding roof, which of course they don't have, so he bought a Porsche.
Paul, I never thought you were such a wind-up merchant!
