Since I have my trailing arms off, I thought it might be a good time to look at the half shafts. Not a lot of grease left there after almost 30 years. And little flex at so. So I've disassembled one side and cleaned out the dry grease. No visible wear or dame. I've reassembled it and it still is very stiff ... does not move in and outwards easily. And doesn't move inwards squarely. Thoughts?

Never seen CV joint grease go "hard"?

did you re-pack with the right stuff?

Any doubts about them and I would replace, they are not particularly expensive from places like J & R

CV Joints are cheap for these, I'd just refurb the driveshafts entirely. The kits normally come with new boots and bolts too.

No bolts were supplied with the J&R kits, plus the circlips they supply are a bit flimsy, so I re-used the old ones. ( remove carefully when stripping )
But their CV joints are good quality. Boots, clips and grease sachets are included smile

If you require new bolts, make sure you get 12.9 grade, they are subjected to a lot of stress.

Completed rebuild. Just need to install clamps.
