Just had my car serviced, while it was there they found that the supply to the coil was only 11V. After cleaning the crimped terminals this came up to 12.2V but should be about 14V. It many be a dirty connection somewhere has any one any ideas where to start looking?

The voltage at the +ve end the coil will depend on several factors:

Engine running?
RPM?

The coil is supplied via the Tacho (with current sense circuit) and via the ballast resistor. The current drawn varies with RPM.

Engine running you are never likely to see 14V (unless youre cooking your battery with overvolts)

IMHO 12-ish is pefectly acceptable.

Agree with Le TVR

Also, the cranking voltage is more critical than the static or running voltage.
