Do you tend to get your S's serviced every 6 months or do you wait for 6000 miles to come round? I am 7 months since the last service but only about 2500 miles. So do I wait or get it serviced as it is more than 6 months? Found a place locally that services TVR's including S's and charges £150 / parts (approx £50) + vat which I thought seemed reasonable.

As with any car it's which ever one comes first... anything else and you're not following the service schedule.

Every 6k... but minimum of one 12k service every year if not covering the mileage.

My S never missed a beat...

Keep the oil clean and fresh and change it every 6 months regardless of mileage, is the advice given by my mechanic.

Oil and filter every six months regardless of milage done is my policy.Other stuff I do on a weekend check basis such as airfilter is clean, plugs are OK etc.
Otherwise I tend to find the car tells me something needs doing!!

£150 seems amazingly cheap - my nearest TVR dealer is Christopher Neil in Northwich who've just quoted my £414 + VAT for a 6k service on V6 S.

Does anyone know a TVR dealer or someone recommended to service the S near North Wales / South Cheshire area? It would really help...!

£150 was the labour with parts on top. I haven't used them before but I will give them a go.

So so far we have a mixed response on time or mileage

This is why I'm doing the servicing myself. It's a Ford Capri/Granada/Sierra with a GRP body for God's sake. That pretty body is seemingly open season for dealers to rip you off.

Anyone that knows about cars and is armed with a copy of the bible can do the numerous TVR specific checks that need to be done (that dealers arguably don't bother really doing anyway). Yes, my car will be worth less on resale. But by substantially less that what I would have spent on servicing labour costs.

Use the savings on just one 6 month service to buy yourself a digital camera and printer, build a photo record of you servicing the car.

TVR servicing costs on V6 S series cars are a joke.

I agree - I think following that quote I'll be going to a reputable garage locally to have it done for about a quarter of the price. Ever tried Ford dealers and service centres, they should be able to service it shouldn't they? Although - ford dealers - perhaps not a good idea.

Couldn't agree more. Even doing the valve clearances is piss easy. The only thing a dealer should do for you is check around the car for things that are about to fail or look dodgy but you shouldn't really be servicing your own car if you can't perform this relatively simple but safety critical task in my opinion.

I totally agree with you Harry, even an independent will charge up for a TVR badge.

I had my engine rebuilt and told them it was Ford 2.9 EFi and they quoted me £450 with heads gas flowed etc but when they realised it wasn't an old Granny or Capri they must have thought I was more wealthy because they charged me £850!

Didn't you argue with them? The engine is bog standard - only ancillaries are any different to the ones found in hundreds of clapped out minicabs all over the country! It's even easier to remove from the S series than it is from a Granada/Capri, for that matter!

I would have refused to pay unless they showed some tangible extra work in doing the rebuild.

Haven't even paid a service bill, and it's making my blood boil. Fcuking cowboys.
