engine removal advice
Discussion
Hi All
Got a week off so I decided to tackle the S3's oil leaks. Having had a good look around it seems that if there is a seal or gasket in the drive train then its leaking. It looks to be leaking from the engine timing cover, sump, rear engine seal, front gearbox seal, rear gearbox seal and the diff front pinion. So I have decided that the best way forward is to remove the engine and gearbox. So, do I remove the engine and gearbox together. I'm thinking I'll stick the rear wheels on some ramps so that I can pull the rear of the gearbox down to get a good angle to pull the engine and box out in one go.
I have a hoist so I am going to buy an engine stand to make it easy to work on the engine. I was also thinking of buying an engine leveller but I can't see where to bolt it onto the engine so I may just use rope.
Any advice before I get started..??

Be careful.... it's heavy Ralph

Other possible leaks to check:
Distributor into block, thin O ring that goes hard with age.
Inlet manifold to block/heads, if it's been replaced and not fitted carefully it is easy to get leaks in the corners where it angles up from the block to the heads
Oil pressure switch itself and/or thread into block..
Sump rubbed through if it's been sitting on the anti-roll bar.
