Hi All,
I am putting my battery in the boot.
What amp rating cable do I need?

Cheers Bill

Minimum 25mm/170amps

I used 35mm/240amps

I was going to use 16mm 135amp with a master 100amp fuse (like in my Tamora) for no other reason other than that is wahat is fitted at the moment. Not a good idea?

Thicker cables should have lower resistance so lower losses but at cost and weight (lols) penalty.

Wether this makes any difference in real world terms with new cable and connectors I do not know..

The 135a protected by a 100a fuse will be just fine capacity wise (obviously). And most likely fine from a resistance loss too..

Sorry to be vague

Thicker cable is always better but if you use the near side space for the battery the cable is only a metre longer than standard. I used the same as was already fitted but I'll upgrade as soon as I have time.

Personally I wouldn't use 16mm even if the battery was next to the starter motor.

Where is the 100 amp fuse going, in the battery to starter cable or in the cable from starter soleniod that feeds all other circuits?
I tried 100 amp between +ve battery post and main cable... it blew, now have 200 ampwink

I'll have a poke around on Saturday and post back. I may have got the basic layout wrong.

Battery in the boot, 35mm to 70mm, nothing less than 35mm, would not use 16mm, It's ok for a decent supply to a good stereo system.

Interesting subject..

200a would let upto 2.4kw flow plenty to cause trouble but that said so is 1200w that the 100 would let through.

Hmm

Remember that any fuse is there to limit current and so should always be the 'weak link' in the circuit which blows first in the event of a short or other over-current situation.

So never use a 200 amp fuse with cable rated to carry anything less!

(Sorry if this posts twice..)
