Drove the S just one mile on Sunday.

Noticed a glow under the steering column, stopped at Girlfriend's and found I had a wire in my hand.

It appears the crimp connection on the main (red) feed to the ignition switch had failed and was glowing like a bulb. I had noticed that the volts had dropped and the wipers hardly moved.

Anyway borrowed a soldering iron from GF's brother and cut out the burnt bit and soldered the red wire directly to the ignition switch tag. (I had a few years ago done some of the others when they failed). Volts returned and wipers faster.

You guys may wish to inspect the condition of the wires to your ignition switch.

Lucky escape! This is a well known problem with this connector.

that sounds a bit terminal

So, is it best to do away with said connector and solder the wires direct to the switch contact, is that what you mean?

Yep, experienced a burnt out connector block in the S. I was on the main road between Southampton and Hythe which you probably know Dave. No streetlights, national speed limit. 70 mph at 11.30pm and suddenly no lights at all. Nice.

Nice pic I've always liked Phil, was thinking of letting him be my bestest friend

At least say you blagged a ride? Do they look as good in the flesh as they do in the pics?

That time you helped me out, it was the same thing. I'd never have found it in the dark. Still owe your help
