S3 - Central locking and indicator stalk
Discussion
The existing very old central locking unit works (Siemens and no circuit diagrams available) but seems to drain the battery in a week so it needs to be replaced. Any recommendations for replacements?
Also the self cancelling part of the indicators has lost the "self" function... Before I take it all apart is it repairable or do I need to buy one?
Apart from that I am still very happy with it after 13 years but really miss power steering.

I hear that Maplins (http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/central-door-locking-system-yd77j) is an easy fit. One of the Hants 3000S installed it relatively quickly - works on a key rather than a fob but you can get the fob version too. Might try it myself seeing that they are on special.
Self cancelling indicator - same problem here, I have lived with it for +5yrs now but my annual mileage is low and replacements do not seem to be easily found in the UK but I might have been looking in the wrong places.

Replaced mine with an alarm system which also operates the central locking actuators and has a spare output which I used for a remote boot opener. It was about £25 off EBay with 2 remotes but still works fine after 5 years. (I really shouldn't have added that last bit) Also the self cancelling part of the indicators has lost the "self" function... Before I take it all apart is it repairable or do I need to buy one?

Oh yes, it cancelled successfully all the time I have had it until a couple of days ago. The stalk has a square form. I had no idea I bought the deluxe version of the car. I guess I will have to take it apart and find the part number.
I'm off to Ebay to find a central locking system then.

I can't quite remember the exact arrangement but the self cancel is operated by a cam on the steering column under the steering wheel. I seem to recall that it is plastic and may be worn, broken or out of position. This the part I need and is for sale but looks a state so I will search elsewhere http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ford-sierra-ndicator-stalk-...

Correct. It is from a Sierra IIRC and might still be available via a Ford main dealer. I got on that way 3 or 4 years ago.The little plastic cam is/was available separately for a lot less than that...

Just lift off the steering wheel and pull off the old one, push on new one. Easy. Still won't self cancel though

We noticed that Joe!
Alan & I kept on expecting you to turn off somewhere, but when you eventually did, it took us completely by surprise!

ETA I have to admit, it's just the same for anyone following me & Austin

Hi, postage may be Expensive but, in my now non TVR garage I have a pair of central locking motors and an indicator stalk assembly that I kept as spares, off an S2 from 1990, hopefully these will be a correct fit. Someone on here may be able to confirm this. I found that if the doors didn't quite shut and latch fully the motors could not push the lock across fully and so kept whirring, thereby draining the battery, so I took them off. The indicator stalk I bought as a second hand replacement but then the original decided to repair itself. £20 plus postage and they are yours .

Hey thanks for the offer. The stalk part number on mine is 83bg13b302ba
9119 10
g48 190
Do you know if your unit cancels?
The lock motors I have work great. It is just the power consumption of the main unit which bothers me so I don't need the motors, but thanks anyway.
