Having read various threads for a couple of months I am now more confused than I was when I started.
I have a S3C which has now had four new wheels (three "buckled"), throttle pot and now decatted. The car still seems slow at the bottom end, and going through the file that came with the car it's been chipped and booster valve fitted the graph states 148bhp engine, 110 wheels, 154 lbs-ft torque @ 3570 rpm.
The bible says 168 bhp and 191 lbs ft as standard!!!
I am running the car on optimax and I redex the cylinders this weekend then took it for a 65 mile drive in case its a self learning ECU after disconnecting battery for 24 hours.
The car seems to run very sluggish below about 2500 rpm.
I did have it serviced by the main agent.
From the info that I have at the moment I may take out the chip and booster valve and start again, unless anybody can come up with some ideas!

You must remember that this is now a 14 year old car and cylinder wear will be a factor.
However with chip and powerboost valve I would be as disapointed as you and more knowledgable people than me would have to be consulted
Questions
1)What are the compressions like wet and dry
2)Now you don't have a lampda telling the ECU what the mixture is doing, what is controlling things, have you gone over to a conventional set-up with air flow meter etc because I understand the S3C didn't have this.
Pies etc, over to you

Those figures sound rather poor, although you can't always take rolling road figures at face value because there is so much variation. It would be worth getting along to you local TVRCC meeting and see if you can find somebody with a similar car to compare against. My S2 had plenty of torque and was very tractible so I wouldn't expect to find the sort of flat spot you're describing.

Car done 34,000 miles would not thought there would be any wear yet.

Will have to test that

Sensors are still in place on manifolds!

Right
In that case, I would put it back in to a specialist tuner like Austec or Joospeed to find out why the power is down.
If the compressions are ok and low mileage can be in my humble opinion just as wearing as high mileage, if it has only done short runs.(I had a Ford Escort that only did 55MPH flat out cos it was so gummed up)
If that is not the problem, I would be wondering if it was running too lean because of duff Lampda sensor and as it is so flat at the bottom end.

Thanks for that bugsy, when I looked at the plugs they looked a bit lean, but I am used to playing with carbs.
I will disconnect both sensors and see if that makes any differance by using the default map.
There was some info on these sensors with the car but I cannot see that any have been fitted.
I thought that having it serviced by the main agents should have pick this up, should have known better!
Living in the Yorkshire Dales would mean Joospeed and a day off work.
Bang gones the limited mileage.

My Sc3 is running at 128bhp at the fly wheel at the moment. Power comes on smoothly all the way but only manages about 140 lb of torque instead of 200..... Just about to decat and then go from there. Will let you know the outcome... and when I find more power where it is coming from!!!

When I removed the cats the off side one dropped a lot of soot all over my head.
If I were you I would de-cat first and see how it feels.
Funny that your car and my car are low mileage cars!

Where abouts are you Keith? I use a Tom at T J Motors in Boroughbridge (ex Harrogate Horseless Carriages) I know that a lot of other TVR owners use him too. He is a top bloke, may be worth a chat with him.

Hi Steve, I live at Settle, the car was serviced at HHC.
Emailed both in November buth only got a reply from HHC.

Or is it an overfueling problem, I'm still waiting to find out the optimum pressure, normal PBV is .3 bar.
on the standard fitment.
This tweeking it till it hunts bothers me.
No it's OK, just tweek it up until it hunts then back it off a tad until it runs smoothly, just do it very slowly giving time for the engine to burn off the excess fuel.
when you say hunting do you mean the engine increases the rvs by about 100 to 150 at tick over then drops back again so it gives a brm brm brm rythmic sound?
Mine does this.
Once it is de catted can the guys there then adjust this easily enough.... assuming this is it?

All six of my plugs were white, I think I will do with under fueling, is a tweak a 1/8 or 1/4 of a turn or more.
I know I turn it clockwise to increase pressure, and will mark current position so I have a referance point.
I think the plugs should be a greyish brown when mixture correct, do you agree?
