Hi All,

So I put a new DAB head unit in my S2, firstly to play my iPhone through, and secondly with a view to having digital radio....

First run out and I got a terrible popping noise through the speakers, so I put a new earth wire in direct from the head unit to the chassis, so far seems to have cured the popping..

Next up was to try and get analogue radio reception using the existing aerial mounted on the rear wing in the usual place. Looks like the aerial is doing bugger all as I have very poor intermittent reception and if I unplug the aerial from the lead in the boot it makes no difference at all. So on to some questions please...

1. Is radio reception a general problem in the S due to the fibreglass body?
2. Should the aerial mount in the rear wing be separately earthed (again given the wing won't provide any earth)?
3. Has anyone put/got DAB in their S and if so what aerial did you use?

Thanks all,

Andrew.

Just put a Kenwood DAB in the Tuscan, same problems but on the last cars they decided to put a proper external aerial on the rear boot. This works pretty well.

For the DAB I was surprised it didn't come with an aerial so ordered one from ebay, thought I'd try it hidden in the dash to save anyone saying I had destroyed the character of the car with tacky additions! It works really well and is worth the £15

Hope that helps,

Thanks

Neill

1. No
2. Yes. Usually some mesh under the body similar to that you have found on the transmission tunnel.
3. Any sort of radio is a bit of a waste in an 'S' as you can't hear it with the roof off, and that's the only way to drive an 'S'.laugh

Hi Neill

Thanks for the eBay suggestion, was it something like this?

1. That's good to know thanks
2. Yeah I've seen the mesh, does that really provide an (effective) earth?
3. Indeed, but when I pop it in 5th and trundle you can just about hear some audio, which keeps the wife happy :-)
