I bought these off eBay thinking it might be an easy conversion, but this is what has turned up.....

As you can see, there is no hand-brake mechanism. OK, so has the Sierra Cosworth RWD got a seperate hand-brake? These apparently came off the Cossie with the 4-pot front calipers.

The research I did indicated that the Cossie pads were the same as the ones I have with the standard calipers but these pads are much bigger.

The mounting holes are for an M12 bolt. This seems a bit big for rear calipers. Anyone know better?

The number on the casting is '9257'. Can anyone cross-reference this for me?

What have I bought here? Thanks in advance. thumbup

Looks like I've been caught then. Should have guessed from his eBay name

He's going to be getting some seriously negative feedback unless he comes up with the right answer wink

Thanks as always for your understanding and support Phillpot laugh

I wish I'd known about Cosworth Breakers earlier. Mick, did you get your calipers on exchange or a straight purchase?

Just used their photo...although saying that I did have some 'issues' with other stuff I purchased from him.

You takes your choice and pays your money as they say,

Did the ebay seller not put a photo up? how were they described?

This was the add.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cosworth-calipers-/13155...

It was hard to tell what they were from the photo so I emailed him to check they were F & R Sierra RWD Cosworth and he confirmed they were.

Waiting to hear back from him now to see how he wants to play it. It's always a problem when you buy from a photo and rely on a description. You can never be sure what will turn up. Anyway the 4-pots look OK so long as I can get the bleed nipples out without snapping them off. I have a pair of Cosworth 2WD front hubs in the garage so this will make a nice little package.

I have 1 pair of 4-pot fronts and 1 pair of unknown fronts (the pictures above) which he told me were RWD Sierra Cosworth rears.

I don't suppose they have anything else helpful written on them?

Those ridges on them make me think not ford, where they disappear is presumably because they'd get very close to a wheel if they went all the way across.
3 series BMW is what I'd have taken a guess at but I'm pretty sure they're all marked BMW

Joe,

You do know the callipers on the rear of the T cars is the one you're looking for to run 273mm vented discs at the rear. Picked up a set off evilbay for £50.

No I didn't. But are you sure it's the vented rear set-up which will fit my (V8S) hubs? I thought the hub would need to be modified to take these. Bearing carriers? That's why I was looking for the RWD Cosworth non-vented caliper/disc set-up with the same size disc.

What did you search for on eBay? 4WD Cossie rears or T-car TVR?

If I know exactly what to buy I could just get new ones at £50ea.

http://brakeparts.co.uk/#!/shop/FORD/SIERRA/86-90/...

Cheaper than buying secondhand and having them refurbished. Except they don't stock the carriers frown

What size and type of rear disc are you seeking to fit?

Providing it would be a straight bolt on replacement I was thinking about the 273mm solid disc as fitted to the rear of the RWD Cosworth Sierra. I don't want to get involved with new brackets/bearing carriers or spacers.

My thinking is that if the standard set-up was 240mm front and 253mm rear (ie 13mm difference) and given I now have the 260mm on the front, which I'm quite happy with, fitting 273mm discs to the rear will restore the front to rear size differential and balance out the braking.
