Morning all, the seats in my S1 are looking a bit tatty, I'm tempted to get them re-upholstered (along with the dash and door cards) but first I was wondering what else might be a straight fit, and look in place?

Nothing is a straight fit. Even other S seats.

I like Lotus Elise ones but the sloping tracks in the floorpan need either modding or a plate fitted over.

XJS seats are a nice option that a few have fitted. They are slightly taller though. That is, your bum height is raised.

Mazda MX-5 seats fit as well. I think anything from the mk1 and mk2 generation models fit. Shorter, thinner people get on with the extra height. Personally, if I were to fit them again I'd mod the base to lower them. Other than that I found them comfy. The only other mod was drilling new holes in the floor pan.

I think a couple of people have fitted mk1 Audi TT seats - although this maybe to Chims.

Plentydof aftermarket kit car ones. Look ones that fit the Seven stylr cars as the seats are narrow enough to fit the S.

Seats from later model TVR's are another option.

Chimaera seats I found to have rubbish lateral support, don't know why anyone would want to fit them!

Joe's Cerberra seats look nice but don't come cheap.

From the various posts on here about alternatives I think you'll struggle to better the original seats for normal use, track days or proper motorsport with full harness belts may be a different issue.

My S2 is fitted with chimaera seats. It looks fine. It is not a straight fit, drilling new holes in the bodywork is required.

I had the same problem of absolutely knackered seats - I eventually went for Elise (ebay £35 without seat runners) I then modded a set of Vauxhall runners (any would have done) and this is the result

Hi
I have had a few to try, most of them sit high at the front so your knees are up in the steering wheel, the Lotus ones seam to fit quite well but can be expensive. Just sold the XJS ones, I have a pr of Lotus Esprit ones, not the best looking seats but are just right for my driving position, meaning looks are not what it's about, trimmer says he can do a better job than Lotus did on them and make them look better.

Thanks. They were a straight fit in my V8S, using exactly the same holes as the originals. They sit you higher than the originals so if you're over 5' 10" you won't see much out of the windscreen laugh

Gratuitous trim-porn follows .....

I've noticed the MGB seats are very similar so why not have a look at new foams for these as an option?

A competent trimmer should be able to make it work.
