Ordered a new one before I left for Eurotour.
Unfortunately I must have had a beer before I ordered, there are 2 listed and I ordered the incorrect handed version, so will have to go back.
Buxton Power have this listed for the Cologne V6, however, it is a 60A alternator. The one on my car (presuming original, but can't be sure) has a label on suggesting it is a 90A alternator...in which case, should I be asking for a refund rather than an exchange?
Please can someone confirm what is the correct rating for an S2 (2.9 V6) before I pack it up to send back?
Here's what I ordered clicky

Thanks! Hope everyone got back safely from the Chunnel / Ferry. While I wait for replies I'll carry on giving the MG a well deserved bath. No other problems for us on the way home....save for running out of fuel on the M25, whoops! Can in the boot, no dramas

There is a second hand alternator for a 2.9 S3 for sale at David Gerald Sportscars (See DG Sportscars Facebook page there is a photo on there), that may do you and you can just get a refund on the new one and save a few £.
Thanks - looks about the same as my old one - so I may as well get that reconditioned if I'm going down that route. Was looking more expensive to do that than buy this new one for 70 quid but if it's not right that's no good!Andrew

Just wondered if you had checked to see if there is an auto electrician doing rebuild services in your area? The one I use locally is brilliant and it is a very long time since I have had to buy a new alternator or starter for any car I have worked on.
As above. Alternators are not rocket science. Repair kits are about £20 - £30, having someone refurb it doesn't cost much more. Chances are the quality of yours is a lot better than one you will buy. I got my alternator completely refurbished after my week one electrical snag by an old school alternator guy. Cost 80 quid but came back good as new with a new lick of paint and all. Certainly sorted my mysterious engine-cuts-out-at-2500rpm problem.
He said that they dont make alternators like they used to, so you are better of getting old ones refurbished; give it some new bushes, voltage regulator and bearing and it will be good as new!
And mine is a 90kva alternator in my S3.
