oil and petrol
Discussion
I am looking for specifications of suitable oil filters. The cologne was not imported to Australia and the EFL90 (not available) dimensions looks too high. Ryco have a good cross-reference if I have a starting point.
Also, will the 2.8 fitted to S1 run ok on unleaded or should I add an additive? A ford forum suggested there may be a code stamped on the head but i'm not sure where I should be looking. (Anyone got pictures?)
Thanks!

My very early S1 will run fine on even 93 Ron unleaded, but I prefer to fill up with 97 or 99 Ron here in UK & Europe as there tends to be a high bio-ethanol content in the lower grade fuels. This is bad for our older fuel systems' rubber components.
Not sure what the situation is in Oz in this regard, and I believe the US octane classification has been adopted down under as well?
Most petrol companies already put additives in their better quality fuels, so there really should be no need to add anything extra.
To add to the advice given re oil filters, I have also got listed the following:
Mahle OC102
WIX WL7168
FRAM PH2854 ( Z501 )
Unipart GFE 264
Bosch 0 451 103 274
Thread size 3/4" - 16 UNF
Height = 71 mm
Dia = 93 mm
Seal dia = 72 mm
I believe that the oil filter specified for a DAF ( 66? or possibly 99? ) is compatible.

Or you could fit a remote oil filter as a few of us have done.
Can also fit a heat exchanger (as opposed to a radiator) to help steady the under bonnet temps.
There are a few advantages to doing the above. I can't think of any meaningful disadvantages - cost maybe a deciding factor.
Advantages though;
larger oil filter can be fitted - more readily available and cheaper.
better oil life expectancy.
oil and water temps equalise themselves - oil warms up quicker.
filter is easier to get at.

Thanks all. I have found that a Ryco Z71 is equivalent to FRAM PH2854 (in the catalogue anyway, I'll see if it fits on Saturday).
The usual petrol at the pumps in Australia is Unleaded 91 RON, E10 93-95 RON and Premium 98 RON. E10 contains 10% ethanol. Price can vary daily but at present is around $1.20 - $1.60 per litre. (65p - 90p ?)
