S1 STEERING
I have bought a replacement S1 but the steering does not seem as direct as I remember. I suspect a 'Marina' replacement rack in lieu of standard.
Can anyone tell me the standard turns lock to lock or the source or a quicker rack.
Good to be back. My last S1 I had 11 years & drove to 160,000 miles of constant refurbishment before it was stolen 5 years ago. Thanks, Trefor. Southampton

Rack is a TVR special, chevette based but upside down with moris minor track rod ends.

Stiff or rough travel is usually caused by the bulkhead bearing going dry or worn. I spent most of last summer replacing all ball joints, rack etc to find that the problem was the bulkhead bearing.

Mine was fixed with WD40 and some grease, but a replcement from David Gerald's is only around £50 IRC.

Steering rack problems eh...

After fully striping mine down last year after an MOT failure I might be of some help...

Take a look here

Or drop me a line.

Thanks for your replies guys .
My steering is smooth as silk and no play, all new swivels etc but it takes 3 full turns of the steering wheel lock to lock and I seem to remember my old one was more like 2. Does my memory fail me(it's age) or is that standard.... Thanks Trefor
