Well, the stainless exhaust is complete (with new downpipes) and is back on the car and it's all sealed well now and I hope the downpipes will be better than the standard ones as they have long sleeves (about 4") and these are partially slotted instead of the usual slotted ends to the pipes. The underside of the exhaust has a stainless skid plate fitted so that no damaged is done due to grounding. The overall appearance is the same as the standard exhaust.

I found that the throttle response is now much more instant and the car is very free revving, considering it's a straight through and minus the long front slim silencer it not too loud unless you boot the throttle but at idle speed it does sound a bit like a monster truck or dragster, therefore I may have my new single box off again and have baffles fitted, so no longer so much a straight through.

The MOT rules say that the car has to be about the right noise level for the type of car compared to similar cars, so an average noise for it's type. This is very subjective so do you think I will get through the MOT OK with it as it is?

I'd much appreciate your opinions and experiences.

TIA,
K

Hi Rob,

I'll start her up at 6pm tonight and you have a listen out your upstairs back bedroom window and see whether you can hear me from Sussex!

Are you sure you cant come down to my weekly Beachy Head meet this sunday, 2pm

You would be the guest of honour, I'll buy you a drink, etc etc...

Ive been toying with the idea of a super sports exhaust myself, still not sure whether to go for it or not as the cerb is LOUD

I started mine up the other dqay and went off down the road. My father said he could hear it all the way down and back again. About 1/2 a mile or so. The MOT is at the testers discretion, so if you get an arsy tester then you could have problems. My mini was failed on being too low, as he couldn't be bothered to jack it up and too loud. The comment was: "I just don't like it". Road legal is 98db.

I wish I could make it but the S is requires both MOT and tax (so I'd be in the BMW) and my wife is off to the states the same day so I'll be tied up (probably literally ) until she gets back.

Is Beachy Head arranged for every Sunday?

If so, I'll try and have a run over after I have the car MOT'd taxed and a new set of 50 profile tyres on. Oh and the tank sender sealed ....again!

Hi Chris,

Sounds like you are close to being able to use the car then, all going well?

Thanks for the info regarding MOT and noise, I may be a good bit louder than 98db to be honest!

I was unable to find any noise level for MOT when I searched the WEB, all I found was basically at the testers discretion and no louder than the average for that type of car!

I'll have to see what happens, I'm happy with it as it is (I think) but others in earshot may not be

I've been really busy with the new job and all, so getting any work done on the car is few and far between. I've also been busy at weekends so again ditto. It is drieable, but I have some cosmetics to fix up, ie. New Fogs, indicators, chrome bits, the stainless Dash. I think I come in at around 130+db.

I have the Peninsula sports system.

Measured at Castle Coombe last year 110db at 4,000rpm. The silencers bring it down to 99db.

I think the road limit is 115db.

115db ...ooooops!

It may need to come off and be baffled up.

I'll see if it passes 1st, a few more bits to do this weekend first though.
