Hi all as some of you know I'm restoring a s1 body off restro, anyway I've done all the bolts etc and just tried to lift it with a jack nice and steady to see if the body was free.
My problem was I dont know if I was jacking in the wrong place but the rear of the car started to look heavy and the door gaps started to open up alot way more than I liked anyway. I was jacking at the very rear part of the floor pan as I said it was only a trial jack but I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting it to any great height. Any ideas wheres the best place to sit the jack also I haven't removed the tank would this be a better place to put the jack after the tank has been removed.
I've noticed one or to have left the roof on when lifting the body is this to help to keep a solid structure when lifting.
I'm affraid I can't use my garage roof and straps don't think it would cope lol
Cheers Tony

Make sure that you clean out all of the muck and dirt between the body and the chassis outriggers, this can make the body and chassis separation difficult.
You can lift the body on the four corners, first about 4-6 inches vertically and then you need to lift the back end above the rear suspension and slide the bady back by about a foot. With help from a few people this should be easy.
When I did mine, there was no problem with the doors and I took the targa panels off, but left the back roof section up.

Are you absolutely certain that you have removed ALL of the body / chassis bolts?
I believe there are two which are easily missed, close to the lower seat belt mounting bolts, but hidden under the carpet. ( One on each side of the car.)
Also there may be a bolt on each side of the transmission tunnel. Have you lifted the rear end of the centre console to have a look?
Finally have you removed the handbrake lever pivot bolt?

I lifted mine without help
2 trolley jacks, two stout ropes and a 3x3 length of wood. The rope was then threaded through / above the garage roof trusses.
Keeping the doors closed, I jacked up to the rear of the rear wheels until I could get the wood through above the tank and attached the rope to the wood. I then raised this about 2 ft and tied the rope off . Then using the jacks raised the front a little at a time and slowly edged the car forward until I could attach the second rope under the shell near the front. I then raised the shell as high as I could to give as much access to the rollong chassis as I could. Once the engine / box etc. had been removed, The chassis was taken to the blasters and then repaired.

Hi guys i'm sure all bolts are removed been over car a few times can't see anything i've missed.
Mine is a s1 which doesn't have the removable center console but and I cant see the 2 bolts that seem to be on the later s models.
As said before I can't use my roof to lift as its getting on a bit like me lol. I want to just lift as high as I can on the jacks then wheel the chassis out of the way. I have found its a little tight around the filler neck area and when I lift each corner by hand this does seems to be the area that is sticking. The small earth wire has been removed also so this isn't the reason for it being tight.
Like te idea of a coffee lift morning lol
Cheers

may be worth undoing the tank holding strap bolts as they can be reached from underneath, then take the tank outlet hose off (and return hose if need be) then if it is stuck it'll lift with the body tub.
Last resort stuff if you can't get the tub to raise without the tank - I would suggest the tank to filler tube hose as it passes through the boot floor.

There are a few threads on this issue, lots with pics, if you search for body bolts/chassis bolts. I drew a diagram for the location of the ones I removed when fixing the chassis on my V8S. The V6 is different (eg: there are two in the boot), but it might give a clue as to where to look.

the S1(usually) does not have the two under the centre console but has two in the boot.
It is worth lifting until it gets stuck then lower slightly, now have a good look (and crawl) and try with a prise bar as you go around looking for something holding the lift - cable connection / hose / brake or clutch hose / throttle / steering / earthstraps / handbrake mechanism (that one had me stumped for a while) / gearstick gaiter etc
