Sorry all, I hate to ressurect an age old question, especially seeing how many discussions have revolved around tyres in the past, but I can't seem to find the definitive answer to the best tyre for the S2.

The choice seems to be:
B'stone RE720
G'year Eagle F1
S03 Pole Position

I'm really interested in people's opinions of the best, I've got RE720's at the moment and they seem pretty good and are just getting to the point of renewal. Has anyone tried Pirelli P-Zero's?

Thanks everyone for feedback and sorry again for repeating old questions!!!

Consensus is that the Pirellis are not so good on the S with its tail happy characteristics.

Your current RE720 tyres are rated highly IIRC amongst most S owners.

Having said that, my rear drive Beemer has Pirellis on the rear and it's very good in the wet but it is much heavier than an S especially at the rear, has approx 50/50 weight distribution which I'm certain an S hasn't!

Mine are Marigoni make, which I understand is a division of Pirelli. They are standard profile and size for the original S wheels...and I rate them!
They are hard wearing, done 10,000 on them and still as good as new,and I have never lost it in the wet, which I did on the old Bridgestones.Cost around £60 a piece and have a nice looking tread pattern.
Have a look at one if your supplier has in stock.

I've got P6000's on a 306GTi-6 and it sticks like glue. You have to be an animal to make it even start thinking about misbehaving. They are complete crap on the S though.

Will be interested in the consensus of other S owners and which tyre comes out top of the poll.

Thanks for all the information so far. I had the pirelli's on the back on a BMW 540 which were pretty good but wore out very quickly. I find the bridgestone RE720's a bit twitchy in the wet and now they're wearing a bit it becoming quite snappy.

Votes for your top tyre everyone would be brilliant!!

For the price they grip really well, not sure what they'll be like after 10k though....

Once again I will state my postion on Pirelli P6000. Absolute !!! I went from S02 PPs to the P6000, (just swapped the wheels) and the difference was amazing!! I went from predictable, stable cornering at speed in any conditions to a noisey unpredictable teflon drive. Especially in the wet.

I've always had RE71's on my V8S, but due to no availability have now changed allround to Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD2's and am very happy so far.....

The ride is better, goes round corners like its on rails, stops well etc. I do now have Griff rims on the back with 225x45x16's which may help I suppose

Black Circles were best price and you get 5% discount for mentioning PH

Also try: - www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html

I searched the other day and found them to be cheaper by £25 per tyre than black circles were advertising them for (for same size and make).

A nice tyre but that's as far as it goes. Superseded many years ago.

Breaks down to two: the GSD2 and the GSD3. The D2 is a good tyre and possibly the best choice for a 205/60/15. The D3 is a great tyre but is not available in a 205/60 or a 205/55.

S03 Pole Position

One of the only UHP tyres available in 205/55/15 size. Very good but stiff sidewalls are its Achilles heel.

Also the Toyo T1-R is available in the 205/55/15 size.

Having stated above that Pirelli are good on my beemer, what happens on saturday??

I pulled away from a junction when there was a small space between cars allowing me to move from the side road into the main road and I was only doing about 20-25mph and I totally lost control of the car and in the opposite direction to the way I was steering (very strange), I was heading for a high kerb so I lifted off and braked a little giving some opposite lock and then booted the throttle to flick the back end in line which it did but then I lost it the other way, so I steered into it and just lifted off all the pedals and it righted itself. How embarrassed was I

The road was dry and there was no ice and the tyres are pretty new so I'm really puzzled as to why this happened, unless Pirelli are really not much cop on the beemer too.

I managed to avoid hitting anything or anyone but it certainly was a brown trouser moment

After that ....I switched the traction control on

Just how new are they? Probably need to be run in for the first 500 miles.

I have a set of winter wheels (powder coated) and put
Toyo R610's on them. Seem to be okay so far a bit twitchy
on the greasy roads we have had recently but i think
any tyre would have been.
