*sigh* I fitted my new EBC disc today, easy peasy

But when i went to fit the Goodridge Braided hose kit (V8s/S4c 8 hose kit) Im well confused as to what way these are meant to be installed ?

First of all there are 8 lines

2 x 410mm (16inch roughly)
2 x 255mm (10inch roughly)
4 x 230mm (9inch roughly)

All of them are Male

I haven't looked at the rears at all yet, but on the fronts I can't see how Im meant to connect it up, at least without a union/joint for 2 male ends to go into ?

My current rubber hose at front come out of the Caliper Through a bracket (back of top ball joint) and up to the bracket near the radiator to which it joins the copper pipe. This is one continuous rubber hose approx 520mm long, NOT jointed at the bracket behind the ball joint.

I've checked various threads on here and it seems Tower View supply these fronts at 510mm (20inches) long, and discussing with a local V8s owner he got his rears from Tower View at 740mm long to be installed as one long braided hose, instead of hose - Copper - hose - copper.

Looks like I'll phone Brakehoseshop on Monday and discuss. If they don't sort it, I'll probably phone Tower View and order one of their sets.

Am i missing something here ????

My S had a 2 pipe system on the front, Thhere was a bracket on the ball joint and this had 2 connectors with a copper link pile, the hoses went into these connectors. When I got my braided pipes from David Gerald they sent just 4 pipes, 2 for the front and 2 for the rear, I have drums at the rear so dont need the extra flexible pipes at the rear.

If you search the forums for threads on braided hoses you will find a variety of experiences! My S3 has 2 hoses for each front caliper, conected by a short S-shape copper link mounted on the back of the hub mounting. Some have converted to the single hose method reaching direct form the caliper to the chassis conection. Sounds like your kit is based on having 2 hoses at the front. Not sure on the rear disk set-up, we V6'ers have a single hose connecting the copper from the brake drum to the copper on the chassis. The Goodridge hoses are all assembled by the UK distributor who makes them up from a warehouse full of pre-prepared lengths. Hopefully some other V8'ers will let you know how their conversions went - otherwise, ringing the supplier sounds the best bet.

Thanks for the replies guys, Hopefully some V8 guys wll post a message shortly to confirm.

Looks like the usual TVR differences I'd much prefer a single pipe to the front discs tho.

Hi Guys,

The Goodridge hose kit you describe is made for the V8S.....our V8S. The kit they originaly sent was a four line kit with one long pipe at the rear from the chassis piping, down the sing arm and up to the caliper. I didn't like this, it wasn't long enough and was different to standard. The kit you have has two short lengths linked by a long length of copper along the swing arm as per standard "S with rear disks" set-up. I can't comment on the drum brake set up.

What may have happened is that I used the longer hoses (the ones Goodridge intended for the back) on the front because they fitted perfectly and then changed the remaining single length hose for two as described. Goodridge probably then amended their kit accordingly.

If I was you I would measure what you have, phone Goodridge and order a direct replacement. They are very helpful and you should have your custom kit within a week.

Kevin

P.S if you are reordering I would get the all stainless steel fittings.....that way they stay shiny for life and they don't cost that much more.

AHA !, so it's your fault

I spoke to Ian at brakehoseshop.com and he has been very helpful. Basically I'll measure up and he'll make them to suit. The fronts appear to be 540mm as a one piece pipe. I'll have to get under and measure the rear ones as well.

Thanks for the post.
