Hi everyone,

Well, all the winter jobs are complete and the car is back together:
~ new clutch
~ refurbed gearbox
~ new propshaft UJ's
~ new front suspension bushes
~ new ball joints
~ straight throttle plate
~ new rocker cover gaskets (& cleaned rocker covers)
~ refreshed a couple of electrical connectors

Booked in for an MOT sometime this week.

As I've had the front suspension apart, I am thinking of getting the geometry, corner weighting and suspension set-up done properly, probably at RT Racing, but I have no idea what's involved and likely cost.

Anyone able to give me an idea?

Purely a guess but I'd have thought with no delays for seized bolts/adjusters etc. about 3 or 4 hours work?

What do independents charge these days, 50,60,70 pounds an hour?

Max,

These guys fitted new dampers and springs to a previous S for me and set everything up including corner weighting etc. The car felt amazing afterwards but I'm not sure how much of that was down to the new components or the corner weighting. I'm a lot smaller than you so the corner weighting will probably benefit you more! hehe

I know they're a long way for you to travel but will be worth ringing to see if RT quote is reasonable. If you did want to make the journey south we've got a spare room wink

Love this. so many have it done without thought for the additional 10% of car weight that ends up being put in the car as we drive away!

Not forgetting the weight of fuel, probably best to get it done with half a tank.

Maybe just the lack of weight in your wallet afterwards? laugh

The computerised 4wheel alignment will be around £75-£100 if all adjusters are freely moving. Corner weighting another £30-60. At least that's what I paid my TVR expert. Totally transformed the car.

Unfortunately for you, I go to Mat Smith Sports Cars in Downham Market, Norfolk, which is 70 miles down the A17 from Newark, as that was where I lived before I moved to Newark. Mat is well worth the trip, not expensive, expert at what he does. I still go there - car is going in for work next week.

RT Racing in your area ought to offer similar services, they are well respected.

There's also a company called Str8Six, another TVR specialist, in Newark. Again, I don't know what equipment they use, but they are very well respected in TVR circles. Their name refers to the engine in the Sagaris and Tuscan, and the company prepares race cars as well as servicing road cars.

Yeah, I've used RT before and are my first port of call.

I've heard of Str8Six but assume they're more familiar with the newer models? And heard of Matt Smith too but a stretch too far for me really given there's plenty of choice nearer.

There's Selby TVR too just up the A1 too of course.

Cheers.

Srt8six in Newark used to be Willow Sports Cars and they used to deal with older TVR models than Str8six necessarily would have done. They also do a lot of chassis work etc so are bound to know the older cars well wink

Str8six at Lewknor used to look after my S when I lived not far from there. Mine would be the oldest in the car park every time I visited. They are very well respected and honest and would happy recommend them. Jason who's business it is and Chas who organises the running of the place are friendly and honest from my experiences. They would still be looking after my car if I didn't move up north.

Philpot, I'd add quite a bit more to the hourly rates, somehow I have £110 per hour in my head, but could easily be wrong. I'm away from home so can't check my paperwork. Their work is worth it as I was the convenience of them being local.

RT also have a great rep in TVR circles. They did a lot of the work on Simon's V8s (TVR23) and his is beautiful!!!!

Been meaning to get mine done, had new springs fitted this winter which have transformed the car from how it was before. 500flbs at the front at 400's at the rear, strangely had 375 at the front and 175's on the rear. Always knew something wasn't right!!!!!! (Will pop in the wiki when next on a pc. Really don't want to mess it up on my phone!!)

Guys...
Being as my own topic/question of GG pro free spring length hasn't had any replies yet, plus the suspension Wiki has only in one example the spring free length quoted, the other 'rating only' info isn't of much use ! So can I politely/respectfully ask, that the free length of any new spring options is also included.

Doing "stuff" myself I may well be some what out of touch with current prices but I would suggest you don't go to a "Beemer" Dealer ..... clickyyikes

Afternoon Mr Bee.

Firstly, I concur Mat Smith is well worth the trip. Tamy is off to him on Tuesday for a 2-day spa treat.

Secondly, Mat has an S2 so knows them well. Unfortunately, the trailing arms on the rear of the S are only adjustable using shims so a bit more involved than the the 'A' framed cars.

You up for some TDs this year??

My car is off to him on Monday for service and heater fan fault.
Next track day is this Friday at Hullavington with MSE. Unfortunately now full.....
I will be doing more, but trying to do tracks that are new to me this year, so Donington, Oulton, Croft, Angelsey. But that won't stop me making one visit to Snetterton and one to Cadwell.
