Can anyone confirm the free length of the springs reqd on Gaz gold pro's on the rear of my S3 ?
The extended length of the Gaz shock, top cup to ring (at its lowest position) is approx 9". So does that mean I need 9" free length springs rather than the original fixed shock springs which is around 10.5".

Hi Terry,
I think the reason you've had no replies to your question is because peeps that have fitted GGPs never bothered to measure the free length before fitting them, and are quite understandably reluctant to remove them from their S and strip them down to find out.
Maybe your best bet would be to contact the Gaz supplier and ask them for the info?

Track v road ordered and fitted new springs to my gaz golds when it was in for its last service so they may know/still have details to hand.

But I would also echo Glenrobbos comments, gaz should be able to tell you and give you correct information. Most with gaz golds will also have speced the springs at the same time as purchase so won't have been privy to those details. I do know though is that the springs that were fitted to mine were too short and way too soft!

sounds like you'd need a spring compressor to get those fitted?

I've had Avo, Gaz and Protech shocks and the springs always fitted by just screwing the adjuster nut right down.

As already advised, speak to Gaz phone

Hi Guys...

Somehow I had assumed that, but thought I would ask all the same, so thanks for the replies so far.
It was just little old me thinking that all you guys got down & dirty, & did it all yourselves.
Just for info, coil-over springs at Rally Design run at approx £15 each, so its not all that expensive to play around with various options... Once the free length is known, of course !
The rear GG pro shocks I have are just a nudge shorter than the originals (bolt centre to bolt centre) when fully extended.
But the top cup is lower hence why I suggest they are 9" rather than 10.5"! So even if I tried/succeeded to compress a 10.5" they would end up with coil binding on compression... Not a good thing !! The 9" will just about be under compression when the shock is in the fully extended state (the bottom adj ring at near max length). So this will allow plenty of scope for ride height adjustments. That's as long as I get the rating about right, to put the shock at around mid travel point...
It'll be many many months yet before my steed sees the open highway again, so dont expect too much info coming from me just yet...
But I will post any useful info as I progress.
