Handbrake / console
Discussion
Hi Alan, know the feeling. I am embarrassed to say I say I cannot remember how I did it as it is a few years ago, but I know I managed to angle mine back more so it didnt go down the side of the console as much. The slightly more upright lever gave me better leverage too as I am only little!
Alan, I've just remembered that you have widened your centre console. This may have exacerbated the problem, or possibly even made it worse. Have you had it trimmed yet? If not, maybe a little fibreglass magic-eriness is needed if there is enough room behind to dish it a bit.
For comparison, here is a pic of Austin's interior with handbrake applied:

More by luck than judgement I think I put the little arm that the cable attaches to, under the transmission tunnel, back on in the "wrong" position (it's on a spline I think), this lifted the handbrake a little making it easier to get hold of.
