An alternative breakfast meet for S-Clubbers?
Discussion
With the rumoured forthcoming closure of Wellesbourne and the new restrictive measures at Shelsley, I have been thinking (
Oh no! I hear you all say! )
For me, the massive price hike plus the requirement to pay in advance has made it difficult for me, being a computer numpty. Plus it's the principle of the thing and the way they have gone about it.
So as far as Shelsley's concerned,
"Ah'm oot!"
Time for an alternative breakfast venue methinks
There are a couple of likely places that spring to mind in Barry's neck of the woods, and the chance to drive some of the nice roads in Essex that were used for the Tour de France in 2014.
1. The flying club cafe at Andrews Field, Little Saling, Essex. This was an American bomber base in WWII, now used by the local flying club. They do an excellent breakfast and you can watch the light aircraft coming and going whilst you enjoy your heart attack on a plate.
2. The Blue Egg, Great Bardfield, Essex. Thus is a farm shop and well-appointed restaurantat the end of the Universe that is sometimes used by the Mid-Essex TVRCC for breakfast meets.
We could devise a nice little run-out after our breakfast, possibly including a visit to the remote backwater of Philpot End to look for evidence of neolithic stainless steel mining? ( There is absolutely nothing to see really, but Mike could have his picture taken next to the sign! )
It's about tine we visited Barry's region for a change, he's made so many trips to the West Mids area, let's give him a home fixture
Also the Norfolk & Suffolk guys might be tempted out to play?
Your thoughts and feedback please....

Glen
Whilst Essex would be OK for me, though Kent would be far, far better; I suspect for the greater number of people the central(ish) location of Wellesbourne and SW is more convenient. I suspect that travelling a little further South may not be an issue, but it would be better to try to keep to the same longtitude as Wellesbourne or SW rather than making it further in a South-Easterly direction into Essex.
A shame, I was determined to get to Wellesbourne for one of their famed breakfasts and to meet Philpott's lady friend at the cafe.
I applaud your forward thinking in looking for alternatives. It would be a shame to lose any opportunities for getting together.

Thanks for the feedback Paul.
I was not proposing an exclusive breakfast venue, merely an alternative that would allow a slightly different catchment once in a while to encourage the eastern tribes of Angles and Saxons to join us.
You still have time to sample the delights of a Wellesbourne fry-up, it is still open for now:

I am not entirely sure if the proposed housing development has been given the go-ahead as yet, but it's not looking too good for the Wellesbourne Airfield businesses if it does happen.

Thanks Glen. I keep meaning to go there to look at the Vulcan. Might tie it in with a trip to the Motor Museum at Gaydon.I was nit proposing an exclusive breakfast venue, merely an alternative that would allow a slightly different catchment once in a while to encourage the eastern tribes of Angles and Saxons to join us.

I'm intending to attend the TVRCC AGM at Gaydon at noon this coming saturday.
A little diversion to enjoy a Wellesbourne Breakfast wouldn't be such a bad idea.
But not too early
I'd better check that the Touchdown Cafe is still open.
Anybody else up for it? Sorry it's a bit short notice.

Can't make this Saturday unfortunately but if anyone is looking for somewhere to go Easter morning... Cars and Coffee.
Quite happy to have a wander down Barry's way sometime

Anyone going to Santa Pod?
Top idea Glen...Would love to go to Shelsley but a 4 hour drive before breakfast is testing...
Definitely be up for an Essex run as long as I am free on whatever date is set. Did recently see the Essex TVRCC lot on a breakfast run as they were the only ones doing anything at the time in Jan, (...which wasn't in the Peeks!...)....but they just met and went for breakfast!!! was forced to go on my own mini run to make up for it....advice: dont go to Clacton or Walton on the Neze....

...shall I print of some XR3i stickers for our cars so we fit in..actually it is TOWIE Evoques now...

Max,
I hope you are coming to the Oilcan Cafe at Hepworth on Sunday, followed by the Dambusters Run. That will be a great scenic drive out.
The following Sunday 27th March, is our High Peak Nomads monthly meet, 1pm at the Knockerdown Inn, Carsington, Ashbourne DE6 1NQ.
All are welcome to join us, but it will be very busy ( Easter Sunday) so if you want a meal it would be best to book un advance. Their car park us quite large, so there should be plenty of room for us.
Andy,
I like your idea of a roving breakfast schedule, that could lead to lots of interesting possibilities, and enable more S owners to join in the fun.
But don't mention the rubber gloves and sink plunger

That's a nice drive from here so depending on family plans might have a run over. There is a vacant space on my calendar on Sunday 17th April.
How would that date suit the S Club massif?
If there is enough interest, we could have a nice run out in the Essex hinterland after breakfast. It would be mostly in the rural northwest of the county, avoiding the TOWIE region, so no need for orange paint/ spray tan
How does that sound? ( Numbers required to give chosen venue prior notice. )
1 Glenrobbo & Percy or Austin.
