Heat Resistant Paint
Discussion
I have recently stripped and painted two rocker covers (thanks Tim). I have done each with two coats of silver hameerite, but it's not really the finish I wanted. I have tried looking everywhere but can't find any chrome effect heat resistant paint. Does anyone know where I can get some?????
Hi Chris.
I laquered mine after spraying silver hammerite which brought them up better, more like alluminium.
I tried a chrome but was disapointed with the colour and that became opaque when I sprayed the laquer on so had to come off again.
Hammerite and laquer seems to resist everything, oil, dirt and heatwise, but don't spray to much on or it will split from the paint when hot on the tight angles on the bolt face.
Cheers, Tim.

Yep,for radiators. B&Q IIRC.
B&Q sell one called Plasticote and it is pretty good, very chrome.
I sprayed some wheels with it a while ago and they looked pretty good but it wasn't durable enough and marked whilst washing the car and with road grit etc but rockers aren't subjected to such harsh conditions except the heat and it was OK in high temps as Tim says it is intended for radiators etc.
The can also shows it being used for light fittings and I'd guess these could get fairly hot too.
I reckon rockers would be fine painted with this (please note, for legal reasons I am not advising that it is OK to use this paint and you do so at your own risk without any loss or personal injury whether physical or material being attributal to me in anyway whatsoever)

That plasticote chrome works OK but,be warned,Don't use any laquer over it...it reacts and goes opaque.
Looks horrible.
Probably be OK with just polish but don't think you could use it over the top of hammerite without it again reacting.
Howcome I am so clever...
Easy,I tried just about all of them and stripped half of them off again!
