Greetings all, finally getting round to deciding what to do about the old strut that my daughter accidentally wrecked by not releasing the "catch" before leaning on trying to shut the boot! I have noticed that some have you have out a gas strut in so my fairly obvious question is which/what did you use? As always my thanks for any help.
Cheers,
Jeremy

As an aside, once had my S2 MOTed at a regular garage who were laughing at me for taking it to a specialist for servicing - "It's just Ford bits!". This was about 2 minutes before one of them tried to close the boot by leaning on it rolleyes

The S3/S4/V8S boot opening, lid & electric release is designed for the gas strut, but the S1/S2 is not.
I think it has been done in the past, but would require quite a bit of re-engineering.

It won't fit an S1 or S2.

For S3 onwards, TVR re-engineered the shape of the opening, the design of the lid and the position of the lock to fit the hydraulic strut.

TVR Parts stock the original (http://tvr-parts.com/tvr-parts/part-details/tvr-s28u-10141/boot-stay) but the Wixroyd one is stainless and a lot of S1/2 cars fitted these a few years ago.

with the S1 (and 2?) your best fitting 2 weak struts rather than one. I've fitted one and it pushes up that side of the bootlid (I have tried it on both sides) mine are too strong to fit 2 as it makes the boot release grab too much.

Thanks for all your advice. As the TVR parts one turned out much cheaper I've ordered one from them
