Just had a quick drive round noticed my indicators weren't working.. I've checked bulbs there fine, switched hazards on & all indicators come on

Am I missing something? I've had a look at the fuses & they are all fine unless there's one I'm missing that's not on show? I've had this issue before & the garage I took it to said it was a main fuse blown hmm

Take off the top part of the cowl on the steering column and check the indicator stalk assembly/pins are all clipped in. If all OK there, wiggle the connectors either side of the rad (but the problem is unlikely to be here if the rears aren't working either.

If all 6 lights are failing to come on, then it could be my old favorite, a dodgy earth wink or a fuse. "Main fuse"? what's that then? Do indicators and hazards use the same relay?

Failing all that, it's a lovely day to be outside on the drive, in the sunshine, playing with your 'S'. The perfect excuse to get out of being dragged round the shops.

Good luck thumbup

PS if you PM me I have something which might help.

It looks to me like you're missing two, but not indicator related.

Engine fan and rear fog, are they working?

Yes it would appear the hazards and indicators are seperate.

Indicator switch? I know if I leave mine over winter without using it, it sulks and the RH indicators don't work, but the hazards do. I now ensure I cycle all the switch gear at least once a fortnight when the car is in storage; they don't like not being used.

It might be worth taking the switch out and spraying some contact cleaner into it.

laugh i hope so! The engine fan one is relocated under the bonnet (came with kenlowe kit) after original fan completely blew & melted the fuse socket.. I've put the missing one back in for rear fog but im pretty sure they were working

@oldredv8s
Sorry I'm out of my element with electrics, where would the indicator switch be found?

It's the indicator stalk, on the steering column. Should look a bit like this..............

I had a problem a couple of years ago and I had to take the switch out and give it a good clean with contact cleaner. It had also blown the fuse in the fuse box so must have shorted out.

Hi... If the hazards work when the Ign is fully 'off'. Then it has its own separate power supply, so if the hazards are working (ie. All x4 bulbs flash). This proves that all wiring from the stalk to the bulbs IS okay. Therefore it must be... The indicator power supply, or the stalk itself, plus fuse and connectors to the stalk.
Oh... If the red hazard switch isn't fully working, the hazards may work but the indicators might not... TIP. Go to car operate hazard switch until your arm aches, then swop arms and repeat, operating the indicator stalk. You don't need the Ign on to do this !. Then see what happens under normal operationing.

Thanks for the advice, there all working now, got some contact cleaner just in case.

Was interested in putting led bulbs in the indicators but was told I need to change the flasher unit?

Or add resistors in parallel to the lamps, but a new flasher is the easiest option.

Hi...
I don't know the S2 dashboard idiot lights layout, as I'm still restoring my S3. But if you go led flasher, you must have one dashboard lamp/led per side, not one that does both sides.

Has it occurred to you that all of the symptoms you describe, point to the existing indicator relay / flasher unit being on the way out?

I think you may be right, it has happened before.. And suddenly just worked again other day after I noticed the indicators weren't working.
Its located under the drivers footwell but could be anywhere from what I read on a previous post? Do you have the led flasher unit in yours? If so is this the correct one (according to S owner on fb it is)

No, my indicators are standard because:

(A) they still work; and
(B) if they didn't, I would work out what was wrong with them and fix them, rather than "upgrade" a system that want working, in the hope that would (or might) cure whatever the problem is (or it might add a further problem that makes the original problem harder to figure out.
