Surfing reveals:

Rack / Turns lock-lock / linear mm/rev
TVR V8S / 2.6 / 45
TVR S3 / 3.1 / 38
Chevette / 4.2 / 38

Could this explain why some are heavier steering than others?

You obviously made it home in one piece then..

that would suggest the V8 would be heavier (with less turns) - is that what you've found comparing the two? (may also explain the larger bus wheel it has fitted!)

Should be lighter - it's got more holes in it.

Only passing irritation. Been offered a fiends lift to swap the exhaust and cats over on Tamy ahead of Snetterton. So no pressure to fix the Reserve.

It's been a very long two days so please excuse a possibly stupid question. Does this mean the Chevette 4.2/38 rack requires less effort (but more turns of the wheel) to go from lock to lock than the V8S 2.6/45?

Yes.

looking at the linear motion the S3 and Chevette are same, the more turns lock to lock due to the Chevette having more lock?

Have you compared those figures with your cars Steve?

If the v6 has an iron bellhousing then they weigh about the same with the box bolted on. Though neither of them is especially light "boat anchor" would be an Essex tongue out

I've ended up going with buying a good, used replacement rack - my original is not really fit for refurb it would appear...

Lets hope the reduced number of turns means it will arrive sooner...rotate

I've just checked the Chevette rack and it is indeed 4¼ turns from lock to lock and the total travel of the arm is 160mm. So that confirms Steve's research.
