I may be asking a really really stoopid question, but what is the actual purpose of the bonnet scoop on the S2?

As far as I can tell, the radiator and filter are fed from the front "mouth" scoop and there is nothing on the head of the engine that requires a cold air feed? On top of that, there is another small hole cut out from the bonnet lining slightly further up which looks like it feeds the top of the engine, just short of the distributor cap?

Basically, I'm wondering if the scoop is actually needed mechanically as I think it's a contributing factor to poor running in wet weather and TP problems?

I'll now wait for you all to tell me I'm incredibly stupid and it's very important to the running of the car!!

It's there so that TPs fail, and keep Ford in business. Or something.

Ha ha, righto... now I know what you're on about!!! Think i'm going to look for some way of either waterproofing the elecrical components and protecting the TP / dizzy / plugs etc or cooling the plenum only. Any ideas?

Oh, and yes - it does look really nice too

Wasn't that there so a supercharger or similar could be fitted for the Italian market,or was that just the V8s bonnet ?

No that's just the V8S. The "scoop" on the V6 is to vent the smoke from the TP.

Thats about the size of it..

IMHO, it looks good. I personally prefer the look of the forward facing scoop over the rearward facing one..

Plenum does actually get VERY hot and stays hot for a long time. (Yes I almost had 2.9 EFI branded on my palm the other day.)

So I guess any cooling of the intake charge has to be good.

Hmm, could be a useful bbq alternative at Le Mans.

Chuck another roadkill on the (plenum) barby.

F908 TIM has fitted a rubber cover over his TP to stop water draining over it, damn good idea too.

We used to use rubber gloves to waterproof distributor in rallying - pulled over the 'dizzy' cap with 1 finger per plug lead and the thumb for the coil lead - all you need now is a seven-fingered glove (or 9 for the V8 crowd)!!!

The V8 electricals are mostly pretty well waterproofed. I think that Land Rover engines are expected to withstand a fair bit. All of the injectors have rubber seals and some of the other connectors are tripple sealed.

yup... i used to use rubber gloves on mini's because the rain used to drive straight onto it through the grill. Was thinking of the same idea for the dizzy and something like that for the TP but including some kind of heat guard too (kitchen foil perhaps!!!)

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best

It looks possible to fashion a piece of aluminium to form a cover which will also act as a heat sink over the TP and help draw heat away.

My thoughts exactly. It should be able to fit onto the same bolts that hold the TP in or another fixing point around there somehow. Got a busy weekend lined up but otherwise that's what i'd be doing. Thinl i'll try to get hold of a piece of aluminium next week and see what I come up with...

Don't know how fussy your system is about throttle pot calibration, but the hotwire system used on the V8 is very fussy indeed. Having eventually got mine right, I wouldn't go anywhere near the mounting screws. In any case it would be easy enough to secure a shield by strapping it onto the throttle body, if you did want to fit a shield. (Haven't quite worked out what it's shielding the tp *from* mind you.)
