Just had a full service at Tower View, ready for taking the S to Spain next month and doing my first track day

Clutch Master Cylinder failed whilst there! Thought it had been driving a bit 'funny'.

Nearside outrigger has a hole in it The price quoted for body lift and repair sounds fairly good though and as its not urgent I'll save up for a few months before getting it done.

Had to happen I suppose - seems to on all S's eventually.

PS. Roy - your S was there getting its outrigger done ...must be catching.

Yes, same side, same place (by the body-mounting corner plate). It must be catching!
Outrigger has been replaced. I've kept the holed tube as a momento.

Ace tonight?

Dare I ask, how much for the outrigger repair?

Just had both outriggers done and underside sprayed with "stone chip" (body jacked up not removed) for £600.

Give Joospeed a call, he was talking about a much lower figure for the same repair on a chim. There may be less room on an S but worth a call anyway.

IIRC there is far more room on the "S"

In the chim buyers guide in this months practical performance car (top mag) he says that it would cost about 2-300 a side. In a thread on the mag article in the chim section he says that instead of cutting out the whole outrigger they cut out the rotten bit and sleeve it which seems perfectly ok to me. When I had my S3 I was terrified of the outriggers going but now I can weld I think I'd just jack the body up a bit and sleeve it like Joospeed says he would... only I don't have the car any more.

Obviously if the whole outrigger is goosed then it all needs replacing but when all is said and done it's surely just a U-shape made up of 3 bits of round ERW (or possibly CDS but I doubt it) with some flat in the corners... isn't it? I don't know what the join is like from the outrigger to the chassis but it can't be that hard to replicate.

Regards,

Mark
