Been reading about your experiences with the Monacos... looking at your photo the top 'wing' looks very close to the door trim/glass. I just wanted to check that the clearance is ok and that visibility, gearchanges etc are not compromised...

Sorry for butting in, thought my experience may be of interest. I've been looking for replacement seats for a while and have offered up various Cobra seats including the Monaco. I had exactly the problem you describe with the wings. Same goes for other manufacturers' recliners (been through most of them).

Discussed the problem with Jamie at TVR Power - he is going to talk to his contact at Recaro, apparently Nikolai had a few custom seats done and they may have something to fit which are not in the catalogue.

If you're interested I can pass on details of anything they come up with.

It is very close, in fact it touches the side just in front of the roof pivot bolt. The reason I did it was to line the seat up, but the extra support also stops the top of the seat flexing sideways in cornering (even with the brace bars it would move a few mm without this). These wings are at shoulder height and do not obstruct vision. I guess if you fitted a seat with the modern wrap-around head restraints it might be more of a problem.

I too have been look out with no success. I would be interested to hear of a set that fit or a bespoke set (thinking if I put my hand up and its more than one set it might lower the overall cost).

Sure, no problem. Got the impression 'reasonable' is not how the price would be described though.

This months Practical Classic has a "readers deals" section and there's a company offering 2 for the price of 1 (about £250 IIRC), rather nice seats too.

That's very good!!

I paid £130 each for my seats in my mini and they're non reclinable covered in cloth!!

Hmmm bespoke Recaros me thinks £££££££££s Great idea but I don't have as much in the bank as Nikolai!

Anyone tried the Le Mans or Classic for size ... often come up on Ebay cheap enough to consider getting them recovered in leather. Also the Corbeau sportsman or classic are narrow.

Can I ask what problems those of you that have tried these seats are coming up against, I mean is it the width of the actual 'bottom bit' of the seat or the wings etc that are the main issue (or is it purely that they look far too big in the car)

The Monaco was something like £120 including trimming to match the interior. I didn't get the colour quite right so I ended up darkening it with Vinylkote, but most of that has worn off again over the last hundred and fifty thousand miles.
