Hi All

It's been a while smile

Well, things are still progressing with the re-build...albeit very slowly frown

So, I need to source a full hand brake cable set up for the S3 - once I've got this sorted, along with the fuel lines (sourced, but not yet acquired) and brake lines (sourced, but not yet acquired) I should be in the position to look at putting the body back on smile

Still a way to go...but slowly, VERY slowly, getting there...

Many thanks in advance

Cheers
Jaye

Drum or disc brakes?

Both are modified Ford items.

Hi Jaye, according to the men at TVR this is what you want.

personally I disagree, at approx 3.3m that sounds like a standard Sierra cable? If you still have your old cable I reckon it will be more like 2.6m ?
Shame coz that's not a bad price, if you search some old threads I think you'll find £50+ was the going rate.

think I recall a post a little while back where someone had the same issue?

ETA found it, for a V8 (disc brakes) but same "issue"

I had a problem with the handbrake cable when I did my disc conversion, I think Mike might be referring to my thread , it was concerning an over length v8 cable I had sourced from a specialist , I still have my old drum cable if you need it as a temporary fix,or need measurements. Let me know if I can help ,
Cheers

Paul.

Hi Paul - if you could measure the length of your old drum cable that would be great thumbup

If you, or anyone else, has any detailed photos of how it's set up that would be handy too.

It's been a while since I took mine apart and whilst I have some photos I'd like to know I was putting it back together correctly. The old handbrake cable assembly (complete) was knackered when it came off the car so I'm having to replace from scratch.

Hi jaye , I should hopefully be in the garage tomorrow so I will give the old cable a measure for you , as for the set up on the drums , the sprung ends poke through the holes in the backplate grommets and the ends just clip into the shoe lever, it's all pretty simple stuff.
Will get back to you tomorrow.
Cheers

Paul

Hi jaye ,
Measured the length of the cable which is 262 cm , hope that helps , bear in mind though , it was an original fit cable and may have stretched over the 20 years fitted .
Cheers

Hi Paul

Sorry - I don't suppose you could take a photo of the end of the cable - showing where it fits in to/on to the rear plate of the drum & then the 'end connector' for inside the drum itself? This is just to make sure that if I find one that the connections are correct.

Many thanks in advance

Cheers

Top two ends are the drum brake cable.

Coiled up cable with little square holes in the ends is disc brake.

Hi jaye ,
I can't add anything more to what Mike has posted with his picture above , my car now has rear discs and the drum plates have long been despatched to the scrappy , if you have the haynes Sierra manual , there are some reasonably helpful pictures and pointers .
Best of luck ,
Cheers

Paul.
