A new clutch is needed, will phone Mat Smith tomorrow
last time I spoke to him about it he suggested a chassis mod
so you can get the gearbox out if needed so might do that at the
same time.

Barry, I believe Max is good at gearbox removal and clutch changes. wink

Have a look at his "How I got Tony to do it for me" thread on here earlier this year. biggrin
It shows where to grind away a section of two of the gearbox tail housing reinforcing webs to clear the gearbox mounting brackets when removing and refitting the gearbox.

Harsh but true - it is possible to change the clutch without chassis mod or engine out though

This begs the question: How many are still running around with the dreaded yellow connector???

If you have any spurious electrical problems with your S, it may be time to whip off that steering column cowl and check to see if you still have this potentially troublesome item lurking there somewhere in amongst that mare's nest.

Sleep well, don't have nightmares..... sleep .... yikes

Maybe, but wouldn't like to attempt it laying on my back on a sloping drive with the car on axle stands though. Not at my age wink

Mine still does - checked it a couple of times and all looks fine. But if the gremlins creep in, I'll know where to start looking.

..replace it now! it is overloaded and it WILL fail...plus it is an easy job to do... you have been warned.. wink

Mine still has the yellow connector too , I will be cutting it out soon and soldering the ends together , it's always easy enough to desolder them if I need to drop the steering column......I haven't seen any good connectors i like at the high load rating needed.

80 Amps enough?
I re-wired mine with these many years ago:

Colour coded heatshrink sleeving too.
