Well, I've had the V8S for 2 weeks now and I've still got the grin.

Already I feel I want to make the engine look as good as it sounds. So, the question is: how do I get started with engine compartment 'detailing'?

As far as I can tell, what I have is standard and clean so is a good base to work from.

Any tips on where to start? The goal is to be able to lift the lid at a meet and feel proud...!

Then I want my picture in Sprint!

I used an engine cleaner called Tetraclean bought from Halfrauds IIRC. The rockers and plenum are what people see first so they need special attention (I cleaned mine for easy cleaning). I also bought some S/S overbraid which tidies up the pipes...job done.

This works for me, mine isnt the cleanest by a long way, but still looks good at a meet, take a look.

Thanks for the tips Mike. I'll give the Tetraclean a go.

Anywhere in particular I could get the braided hoses?

Plenum looks great - I assume that's elbow grease plus Autosol?

Deffo, love that over braid, was it expensive and where did you get it ?

Not that much elbow grease believe me, just a rub and wash off, it was that easy.

The overbraid I got from a flexible hose company, there must be one near you I would guess! The company I got mine from only had a few off cuts and I bought them, its not that expensive. It ranges from £20-£50 per metre IIRC.

Thanks chaps - Cuneus we might have met up as I'm in Somerset visiting my folks at the moment!

Will definitely follow-up on the overbraided hoses - inexpensive but very impressive!

Now that is one clean engine bay but what is that little box on the air intake between the AFM and the filter. Seems very intresting just sitting there !!!!. Spill the beans.
