After fitting the fan belt from this weekends tights saga, I removed the battery from the boot to charge it overnight indoors, you know what happens next, gently close the boot lid and click, it shuts!!!!!. What is the easiest way to open the boot lid, as I will have a full battery can I just hook it up to the alternator and then use the boot release as normal? Or will I have to go through the rear speakers and use some short of tool to release it? Any help gratefully received from a Tvr novice.

Should work, but if it doesn't

The "tool" is a length of dowel and a torch. Hope your boot isn't full of rubbish.

Now do this

Applying 12V to the alternator works fine for me. If you didn't have 12V to hand you would probably find that a 9V lantern battery is sufficient to pop the boot open. I really like Joe's emergency release idea too.

12 V across the alternator and the boot pops open perfectly. Thanks for all the advise, just need to adjust the tension on the fan belt, it seems a it tight at the moment.

Hi ray ,
Could you possibly mail me the " secret method " as I have no rear speakers so no boot access and you've all got me a bit worried about not getting in the boot !
Cheers

Paul

Don't assume 'it' is where it is supposed to be. Check before you need 'it'. Remember what I said about learning from other's mistakes laugh

Ditto, with brass knobs on!

When my 'secret method' went AWOL, I had to spend four hours with an endoscope and a length of fence wire. OOPS, there goes another 'secret method'.
