Well you have found a rare gem there. You are correct in that my S is receiving a 4.0L with cossie heads, but what you have there is an OHV 4.0L which is not that common in the UK. The good news is that it will drop straight in to your car with virtually no mods. The exhaust will fit and it is dimensionaly the same as your 2.9. In standard form it will develop around 195 bhp, but if you want some more horses it is fairly simple and cheap to bring it to around 250.
What I have done is to use the later 4.0L SOHC engine which in standard form has only 2 valves per cylinder, where as that Cosworth heads are DOHC and have 4 valves.
It wouldn't be possible to use you engine to pop the Cossie heads on but in a way it's better to use the OHV motor as it will keep the car looking pretty much standard.You would do well to think about the induction system on this engine as it would benifit some easier breathing. It's only just adequate as it is and if you start to modify it, then this would be an area to enhance! Various cams are available from Crane Cams at Daytona (I can help there if you want one)and I can guide you on after market ignition and fuelling remaps if you want to go down that route.
The crank, rods, pistons are good for 400 bhp in standard form although balancing on this engine is very important.You will see on the front of the crank what seems to be a rather large pulley assembly, this is because the engine suffers from vibration and harmonics within the normal operation of the rev range. These pulley units are Fords attempt to reduce this to acceptable limits. They have done a reasonable job of it, but you should keep it the same or you will get some interesting results.
Also, the modification of the heads will realise significant increases on the flow bench and so obviously would be a worthwhile exercise.
