Hello, I'm new!

Hello everyone,
Just thought I'd introduce myself officially before I unleash a barrage of questions you've all answered a million times before!

I've decided to join because I'm interested in purchasing an S series TVR, no idea which model yet but hopefully the forum will help with that! I currently drive a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo and my name is Jim (hence the nickname). Yes, I am very imaginative. My car is great, I love it, but I want rear wheel drive, no roof and lots of noise!, so I've decided to have a little change.

So, my first question is, can I run an S Series as an everyday car, will it get me to work and back reliably, down the shops and the odd motoway journey?

I thought the same thing, and having always been a massive fan of all things TVR bought a 1990 S2 (V6). I've got to say it's brilliant, was out last weekend going for a blast and it was great!

I use mine as an everyday car, commutes to work, the odd motorway journey and relatively long blasts here there and everywhere. I basically use mine as I would any other new car.

I've owned 5 series bimmers, new Mini Cooper S's amongst others and i've got to say that (when it's working OK) the TVR is the best drive of the lot, have the roof down going for a blast along the coast or on your favourite road and you'll find out!!!

HAd the same things when I bought my 92 S3 (which is for sale in the classified at the moment) and the answer is yes.

I ran the S as an everyday car and it ran faultlessly. Just make sure you get a solid car.

Imaginative and sensible. I joined a couple of months ago and bought my S3 last week.

You have the right idea; you will get to know how this works. I looked at quite a few before I bought mine. And could have easily bought two or three.

It is such an emotional decision.

One thing worth doing is to join the TVRCC go to your nearest monthly meetings and talk to fellow members.

One other thing I did was to buy the Steve Heath book on the S Series (AKA the Bible)

Yep, you can run one every day… but it takes a certain type of loon

S is a cracking car… and miles away from your Fiat… get yourself to the local meet… check out Pies www.tvrsseries.com and come and ask stupid questions. The S series forum is a friendly place, and a mine of information… top people in here, and even now I've moved on and run a Chimaera I still come and say

I've looked at the cars available on pistonheads and there appear to be some good examples. Are there any other reliable resources I should be checking out?

At the risk of causing an argument, what's the best model to go for? or is there no straight answer?

Get yourself to a local meet to check out other cars to see what you should look out for, where in the country are you based?

Anything with an 'S' in it. S1, S2, S3, S4, V8S
All will put a smile on your face, and all can be used as a daily hack with a bit of TLC. You won't get much inter-model arguments but some claim the green ones are faster.

Wildfire and some of the others can give you the daily driver costs… it's not exactly cheap, but go in with your eyes open, and you wont regret it.

I'm based in Yorkshire (Sheffield) so if anyone is close by and fancies treating me to a spin, there'd be a pint in it for you!

Joospeed is a TVR Specialist, and runs a V8S as a daily driver. He's based in Chesterfield. His car was up for sale but he was talking about taking it off the market. I don't know whether he did or not. Catch him on a good day and he'll probably take you for a spin and give you some sound advice. Mail him through his profile is the best idea.

Hello and welcome.

While you could (and many do) use an S as a daily driver be aware that it can be a pain in heavy traffic, chipping the ice off the inside of the windscreen can be a bind, taking ages to get petrol to go in the tank rather than all over your foot gets annoying and responding to all the waves and people you've never met before wanting to talk about it can become tiresome Oh, your annual mileage will probably double too.

Always fancied one of those Fiat Coupes myself...

Agree with everyone.Mine is my every-day drive and is totally reliable and a real grin.

Just check out the points most regularly raised on here as problem areas to keep an eye on and the rest is hoping for some good weather!Nothing more to it.
The petrol aint so bad on the 2.9S if you are usually sensible...they tell me

You mean I've spent the last few weeks reading all the threads on this forum and every word on www.tvrsseries.com for nothing.
