Giant in an S series
Discussion
I'm looking to buy an S series and have looked at and driven a couple. I am 6'5" and find the steering wheel rubs against my legs. Is it possible to get a smaller steering wheel? Also having seen one car in particular which has crazed paintwork, how much should a respray cost and will it cure the crazing long term?

When the gellcoat cracks on GRP you need to cut it back properly and treat it before painting, if you buy a car in this condition make sure your paintshop is GRP aware, otherwise you will be in for a big dissapointment a bit later.
And by the way if you fancy an S, at your height make sure its an S3 because of the larger door opening
Hi Ed,
I got your email and, in answer to your question, as Mike says I am 6'6" and found the S3 fine to use as my everyday car (unfortunately I no longer own it
).
I did have to adopt a knees-either-side-of-the-steering-wheel posture, particularly when using the clutch, but in cruising mode you can tuck your clutch foot behind the pedal, which allows you to stretch your leg out.
There is some movement in the steering column if you loosen off the bolts on the top bracket, but I'd be concerned about moving it too much in case you placed undue strain on the bulkhead bearing by placing the column at too much of an angle.
I'd also second Bugsy's comments about needing the longer doors on the S3; when I tried out Mick's S1 at one of the meetings, I thought I was going to have to call the Fire Brigade to get me out!
There's also been a bit of discussion on here about different cabin lengths e.g. Shnozz reckons that Claire's S2 has a shorter cabin and bigger boot than his old S3, so your best bet is probably to try a few out for size.
Hope that helps.
Richard

Well I'm 6'5" and fit in my V8S. Its a bit of a squeeze around the wheel, and my knees are either side of the wheel, not underneath, but thats usual in virtually every car i've ever driven.
One thing I did find when looking at various cars is that a rollcage will reduce legroom as the seat will not move all the way back. So best to try a few with and without rollcages to find a fit.
